from what we saw in 2009, a $199 ps3 would literally explode in sales. i really cant wait to see when this happens. sony should just be aggressive and do it this year.

theprof00 said: pretty sure it's coming to 199 officially at tgs. I thought it would be dropped for E3, but TGS makes more sense as TGS is generally a hardware show, and they have a new SKU patented. This coincides with reports about the new "unhackable" ps3. Plus, almost every major retailer has seen a 199$ price point for some period within the last few weeks. Gamestop, walmart, target, now amazon. 199$ looks more and more likely for tgs and the new model. |
i doubt its gonna go down to $199. that will mean the vita is going to be more expensive. than again wasnt the psp more expensive than the ps2? i guess a $100 price drop is possible.
A price drop for almost anything would light the sales charts. this isn't unique to the ps3.
"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)
"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
It's not going to be a $100 cut if only because Sony are only projecting 15 million for the fiscal year. A $100 cut would probably put it in the 17-20 million range.
Remember the Wii deal in November, £49 ($70), sold out in mere minutes...
Dramatic, brief price cuts sell, people buy without thinking because it's cheap. As good as this is, and how awesome it would be if a price cut does come, it wouldn't be like this.
There would be such a huge demand for a $199 PS3, sales would be through the roof, and unlike the Wii I doubt it would lose momentum after the price cut either, it would just keep on going and going until the end of the generation.
The new model PS3 is taking drastic measures to cut back on production costs, I think SONY are setting themselves up for the mega price cut.
