My still works. To be fair I barely used it for games just movies and stuff. I went threw 2 RROD with two different Xbox 360 in about the same time I own my PS3.
Launch unit died (drive issues), bought another one (one of the last 60GB's in my area I guess). It is still working.
I bought mine in Nov 17th 2006 (launch day). There was a point that I thought it would die soon (it was like maybe a year or two ago) my house would get really hot especially in the summer and my friends would describe the sounds of the fan as a "jet plane getting ready to take off" the way it would rev up. At one point it started vibrating! 4 + years later and many of my fellow friend's ps3's death later, it is still standing.
YLOD after 2 years but Sony fixed it and now it runs perfectly.

Sounds like it may not be working for much longer. Fans running at high speed typically means the chipset is overheating and the fans are trying to compensate. If you were to disassemble the console and remove the heatsink, you would probably find that the factory TIM has completely dried up. And you'd probably also find a lot of dust bunnies/debris clogging up the HSF and inside the casing if it's never been cleaned out properly in the last 4-5 years. That's exactly what my original PS3 started doing in the months just prior to when it gave me the YLoD. |
Any simple way for me to clean it? I'm thinking of just trading this for a 360 and buying a new ps3+ps2 if this shit keeps up.
I got my 60 gb fixed twice before i gave up and got a slim when they came out. I miss having the backwards compatability but the slim seems to work way better.

Actually sold my broken one to Gamestop. Cant believe they paid around 70 for it broke!!!
The poll may be simple, but it was TOO simple for my tale.
I had a launch PS3, but it got knocked over and fell 3 feet onto a tile floor. Thereafter the HDMI connection had audio issues (extremely quiet as I recall). There were apparently no other problems, aside from the piece holding the warranty screw to the front panel getting broken, so I could have lived with that -- but I decided to get it repaired, only they sent out a different unit, so the one I've had the last few years isn't the one I started with, although it's still a 60GB fat.
I put Yes. The PS3 I have now works perfectly, aside from I think the fan spins up more than it used to, and I'm sure my original is leading an equally happy existence somewhere, unless the motherboard was deemed not worth fixing.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
