my 60gb model is still kicking, for now. not a big deal for me if it isn't, but hopefully it will stay that way

1st week 60GB PS3 still in working condition.

That is if you don't count that I fixed it myself after the YLOD and I replaced the extremely dry thermal paste and then modded my fan to run at top speed on startup...

Ok, it's loud but it won't be failing anytime soon.  It's been over a year since I had the YLOD.

My original 60 GB unit gave up the ghost just under 2 years of pretty heavy use (to include about 6 months of 24/7 Folding@Home).

The refurb unit SCE sent me back in Jan 2009 has been working fine without issue. Disassembled it once to clean it out, and replace the factory TIM (still wet = good) with AS5.

It's a power hog, but the 4 USB ports, card readers and even PS2 BC were conveniences I'd forgotten how nice they were back when I was using a 40 GB unit as my primary PS3. The 40 GB SKU also died.

mine still living since March 2008.

I am proud of it.

Go Sony Go!

My PS3 is from 2008, have not YLOD but my drive has broken down once, when i was out of warranty to boot. So i now have a PS3 which doesn't play discs and i am waiting for the price to go down before i buy a new one, most games are on 360 anyway.

This pretty much goes out to anyone who has a PS3 with a broken BD drive; check on Ebay or even third party PS3 remanufacturers for replacement BD drives.

The original drives that shipped in the 60 GB units shouldn't cost a penny more than $100, less if you shop around.

The replacement process is extremely simple unlike a YLoD repair that basically requires stripping the console down to a bare motherboard before you even start with the reflow process.

All you have to do is remove the cover (T6 torx security screw), 8 or so Philip's head screws and you have access to the BD drive which has two ribbon connectors and pops right out (no screws). Granted, I've disassembled/reassembled various PS3s maybe 20 times or more, it would take me about 5-10 minutes to do the swap; closer to 5 if I was deliberately working fast.

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

My Launch PS3 got YLOD, and the my refurb launch PS3 got YLOD, im now on my second refurb launch PS3, i will be buying a slim tho on the next PS3 price cut.

mine isnt exactly a launch ps3 but its still a fat ps3 and yes its still wokring

MY first ps3 stopped working, it palys a game for a wile but then it'll freeze. I think it was something to do with blu-ray drive buy i got a slim now anyways. I've still got the old 1 and plan to get it repaired and give it to my brother

My wii has some problems where grey line streak down the screen, in some games its really aparent, in others not so much but its still a bit of a distraction and ugly to look at.

My 360 straight up died. Got a black elite right b4 they announced the new design :(

stopped working pretty pissed gonna miss all the usb ports and flash drives that the newer ps3 dont have
