Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U Is Actually 50% More Powerful Than PS3?

i dont see how this can be news, ps360 is 5-6 year old tech, even if Wii U used tech from 4 years ago its obviously going to be more powerfull

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Wasn't the Wii 50% more powerful than a Gamecube........Maybe not. I pulled that figure out of my ass. But still, whether it's 50% or 100% more powerful, it's difficult to quantify that into performance. And even then, at this point, it's getting harder and harder to see the improvements. Games these days look NICE. I just look forward to being able to play Nintendo games with detailed graphics. That's good enough for me. I can't wait to see the kind of surreal stuff they can pull of with a Mario game and some horsepower.

And I hate to admit it but......my PS3 and Wii U are probably going to be home to console exclusives and my 360 is still going to be home to mult-plats unless there's some sort of huge improvement by the other consoles. Sorry, third party Wii U support. You've gotta prove yourself to me.

If that's true then that's kind of disappointing.

For comparison's sake does anyone know how much more powerful the Wii is compared to Xbox or PS2?

Going where Nintendo are going, this could be Nintendo's last console generation (8th).

As I said in another thread, a comment like "The Wii U is 50% more powerful than the PS3" doesn't really tell you much because of how vague it is. Are they talking CPU performance, GPU performance or system performance on the whole? Are they talking theoretical performance or real world performance? Are they talking about a primitive benchmark (like floating point performance) or a more complicated benchmark that may ignore other enhancements (polygon performance, or shader operations per pixel per frame)?

Do you think an analyst from a firm that has NOTHING to do with technology knows what a shader operation is?

:P

It's probably a bit more powerful, but it all comes down to what the GPU is capable of being programmed. If they can implement new lighting models and get the tesselation engine from newer cards then it might keep up. If they don't offer any new rendering techniques vs the 360/PS3 then you're gonna be left with a Gamecube to Wii update.

going by what they showed, i have no reason to believe it will produce anything better than either the ps3 or the 360 can produce.

Really, because the PS360 can produce the same levels as that Zelda demo at 1080p... right.

It will end up being 5 to 10x more powerful than ps360 and when they upgrade they will be a few times more powerful than it.

well if the wii was exatcly on par with the xbox and the gamecube was more powerful than the ps2 and the wii is 2x more powerful than gamecube this could be a step up for them

Yeah because that is how we should observe and analyze these things. Judge the performance based on two tech demos with 5 weeks of development behind them on a dev kit which has a year or so to be updated........ without any ideas of progression.

Oh, but let's ignore all of the circumstances and pretend  that what we see is what we'll get. Maybe if we wish hard enough it will come true.

ill wait for a confirmation from nintendo.
