Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U Is Actually 50% More Powerful Than PS3?

Wii U will be HD, supporting up to 1080p resolution just like Xbox 360 and PS3, but beyond that it's unclear how powerful the hardware will ultimately be when it ships sometime next year. Nintendo never provides a full breakdown, although the company did say that the form factor is "near final." While many assumed Wii U would be on par with the current HD consoles, word is coming in from developers that it's quite a bit more powerful.

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia commented today, "Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo."

At E3 last week, Nintendo did little to prove this point. During the press conference, footage of Xbox 360 and PS3 titles was used, although the company did show off an impressive tech demo of a bird flying around some trees, and Nintendo also created a very pretty tech demo to represent what a new Zelda might look like.

your thoughts?

Awfully precise and hit-grabbery. Nah.

That's not much. Not even close to a generational leap. I'm skeptical, though.

Old dev-kits, even the bird tech-demo looked better hands on than on the conference, I don't know why but Nintendo brought an old build on stage. The final console will probably be 2.5-3x more powerful than PS3 looking at the confirmations by IBM and AMD.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

As I said in another thread, a comment like "The Wii U is 50% more powerful than the PS3" doesn't really tell you much because of how vague it is. Are they talking CPU performance, GPU performance or system performance on the whole? Are they talking theoretical performance or real world performance? Are they talking about a primitive benchmark (like floating point performance) or a more complicated benchmark that may ignore other enhancements (polygon performance, or shader operations per pixel per frame)?

Needs to be able to render a game with Killzone 3 like graphics at 1080p with 8x AA. That would be awesome.

going by what they showed, i have no reason to believe it will produce anything better than either the ps3 or the 360 can produce.

I can't accept or deny this information unless I see the facts. Other words, what H.S. said.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

It's too risky to have a system that's 50% more powerful than Xbox360/Ps3, not enough gamers will buy it until Ps4/Xbox720 are shown

having a 3x power would be better

if they want the gamers, they have to offer a respectable power jump

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

So an analyst says so...

We don't need further evidences, if he says so it may be true. After all, analysts are never wrong, right?
