Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Kind of Already Has a Portable Gaming Machine.....

So I've been seeing people on the forums asking when Microsoft will, if ever bring out a portable gaming machine. Well they kind of already have one. It's called the Windows Phone 7. It has games like Assassins Creed and PES 2011, along with achievements connect to your Xbox profile.

Now personally I don't really consider phones a gaming machine, but the market is starting to, if not already seems think it is. But I will say if this is the path Microsoft wants to take with the portable gaming it’s a smart one. Instead of competing with Nintendo and Sony which have a good presence in the market with their portable brands, they have instead gone into new waters. Where most likely they can do better and the potential user base can be way higher. They have a large competition from Apple but they have the Xbox brand (and peoples achievement points) behind them to help reel in their already strong user base on the Xbox to their phones.

They also have the option to release new phones with better specs on a regular basis, while Sony and Nintendo can’t do that. Sooner or later Microsoft can leave Sony and Nintendo in the dust. They just need to play their cards right, which they seem to have had done in the begging of the WP7 life, but now the whole opportunity seems lost to them. They need more games on the phone with achievements points not only because achievement whores will want them, but it is great advertising when someone looks at an Xbox profile and sees a WP7 game.

Now discuss! =D

Playstation All-Stars is one of the best games I've played this gen, and is the most fun I've had in a game this gen.

Also, Playstation suite.

Not that Sony has been doing a very good job of it so far. The Play seems nice enough, but there are still, I believe, only PSone games on the Suite, and there is no connectivity to PSN. Even without that, they're doing better than MS - just look at the reaction to Nokia going with wp7.

I think they are going to really start pushing it soon, with updates and new hardware/models from Nokia and others for possibly a 'generation 2' kind of thing.

not only does it play games, and connect to Xbox live but you can also do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehS-AfM4b8I or you will be able to in a future update.

It's not the same thing. It's just another type of phone in an already crowded market.

I GOT ONE! woooooottt...

but the user interface is very shitty, its no wonder no one buys it, it looks like its running on a homebrew'd OS , just a black background with green words in the front , kinda like how VGchartz used to look like, and the "Tiles" look slightly off, they're on the side with a noticable space on the right of the screen that is unused (Wtf?) you can change the black to white , and change the tiles colors to a bunch of colors, but it is still very unappealing, i bought it myself to play the exclusive XBL games, but they should really make it more appealing , and more user friendly (which is ironic from their ad campaign) , the phone is confusing , they mostly use icons instead of words so you don't know what this icon does unless you remember it , for example if you want to select "more options" you have to touch a barely seen icon tucked in the bottom right of the screen with a "...." , at first i never knew its an icon i thought its just a background thing, and it doesn't say what it does, so yeah they really need to make it more appealing! , i never going to see myself using this OS in my daily activities, Android and IOS are ironically more user friendly , and are much faster, which is another issue with Windows Phone 7 , is that everytime you select an app or folder, it shows you an unneeded little animation similar to the one you see in dvd/bluray movies when you select for example "Scene Selection"

I really wanted a Playstation phone, but like you said it's not connected to PSN, so there is no way to connect to my PSN profile. Which is kind of sad because of all the stuff Sony can bring to the table in the phone if they were connected. I could cross game voice chat with my friends and have my friend list on psn on my phone for easy on the go gaming with friends.

In the end it's not even really a Playstation phone, it's just Playstation Certified.
