No Nintendo is still trying to appeal to casuals. Seriously Wii 'U'...that's it?! Sounds gimmicky. No new controllers beside the main one, will be using Wii remotes still. are they so lazy to not create new ones?! I see this as failing hard as the GameCube for various reasons.

Its not about laziness and more of why do it if we are only going to pack in the same functionality in the new extra controllers besides the Wii U controller. Why make people buy new ones when they can still use the old Wiimotes? Do you want to buy new controls that do the same thing only to have a new controller that looks slightly different? Isn’t the Wii U controller enough?

OT: Nintendo will always be in this situation and at the same time lead the industry. People were always hitting on the Wii mote but then when their favourite company copied Nintendo they were all over it. Pathetic!

In that case we should be using Gamecube controllers forever, I mean why should Nintendo redesign new ones when we can simply reuse them FOREVER. Well I am saying this really for the market, Wii U is so similiar to the Wii in look that the casual market won't tell a difference besides controller. These are people who don't look at specs, the U doesn't really help say it's a new sytem. Why spend 400 dollars for a tablet like controller? Exactly.

The problem with the WiiU is that "hardcore" gamers won't buy it, meaning it won't get good third party support, meaning it may turn into another Wii. Consoles are what their consumers make it.

The bottom line is, the unveiling was piss poor, there was no excuse for how bad it was. Barely any games were mentioned (definitely not exclusive ones), I didn't even know it was a new console until the last 5 minutes of the conference, the controller just seems awkward and NOT innovative.

Throw in the fact that Nintendo has just overcomplicated the matter by announcing you can only use ONE of these controllers, the rest will have to be Wiimotes etc and the name "Wii U" is absolutely awful and will confuse the consumer into thinking this is an add-on, just like what happened with the 3DS. If hardcore gamers watching the conference thought Wii U was an add-on how the hell do they expect the casual market to know it isn't an add-on.

The ONLY thing I can compliment is the screen on the controller because of the ability to play games on it without the TV and to use it for menu's etc. Still, it brings complications, Nintendo are shitting on the 3DS with the controller design and the thing will be bulky and expensive. I can't see myself playing Call of Duty on that thing.

I'm not a "hater", I know a flawed console when I see one. It's not so much the console itself, but it was the piss poor unveiling aswell.

I am sure when it is released that no one will be confused.  Just because E3 didn't reveal too much info and made you confused doesn't mean shit when they actually release it.  You think most consumers are going to be like man this thing was revealed so confusing at E3 there is no way I am going to buy one once it is released.  Most consumers probably got their Wii U info from local news, cable news, etc...  Those news agencies were able to report it was a new console.  You took everything that was vague or not even mentioned and made it turn out to be the end of the world because they didn't release the specs to you.  OMG I am so confused must turn into flawed system pretty quickly for you.  The system is a year away or more from release.  What you expect them to do show you 20 games already finished, complete system specs (even though the specs might not even be finalized)...

I didn't comment on anything I didn't know, hence the reason why I kept referring to the UNVEILING as piss poor.

And when I see the product as a whole and everything I actulally know about it, I am still not entirely convinced. The controller is a huge deal breaker for me, too many phericals for too many different games just overcomplicates things, and barely any decent games have been announced for it. Sure the console is a year away but there should be far more games than what they announced, any new console that is being unveiled should at least have a few 1st party exclusives to show.

In the end, the consoles unveiling was poor, and what they did unveil wasn't impressive and just seemed impractical.

The Unveiling of the Wii was terrible back in either e3 05 or that japan electronics expo or whatever it was called. Look it up. They only showed the controller... and we didnt have a CLUE what the specs were gonna be like until e3 06.

Oh...

The Nintendo 3DS reveal was excellent IMO, I thought this was the first major fuck up for Nintendo.

I'd only complain about how it was shown @ E3. Admittedly, I'm not sold on it yet (although I do acknowledge that's innovative in it's own right), but what was shown to me wasn't enough to make me run out and pre-order it, and without exact specs and price, I'm even further in the dark.

I do agree that many will hate just to hate, but then that's not really exclusive to Nintendo.

This is the kind of reasonable skepticism I wish more people had.

I can understand being hesitant. As far as games go, they didn't show much. As far as tech goes, they didn't show much. As far as online goes, they didn't show much. But that's the thing; they just didn't show much. A lot of people seem to be taking the concept unveiling as an official "this is what you're getting at launch" unveiling.

I thought that the 3DS was a fuck up too.

right after the E3 show I was like "what the heck is this thing? It seems like a bad idea."
But then later I realized that it is actually a great idea. It made a lot more sense when you compared it to the DS.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
