Kinect's internal hardware is what makes it possible—or at least much easier to get voice commands working—not just its microphones." People need to start giving Kinect some credit. It has one of the most advanced voice recognition systems available. It is alot easier for developers to leverage the Kinect's hardware and software as opposed to going thru the trouble of writing their own voice recognition code. |
I'm trying to figure out how you can implement voice recognition in hardware - surely it's largely a software task?
Also while the Kinect is a cool piece of hardware, doesn't mean it needs to be implemented everywhere. I'd prefer to see it used where it would actually improve the experience rather than just adding it in for the hell of it (I'm talking to you ME3).

Its not going to be mandotory...it would probably be extra features like the voice control or something like that.

That's a lame feature for anything other than a more complex RTS anyways(voice commands,) and you have to hide and play by yourself so people don't fuck you over on purpose, since I'd totally fuck up other people intentionally when they have it on just to piss them off.

It doesn't have to be voice controll, I was just giving an example. The point is its not mandatory and most of the time it will probably be just some extra features.

What does this have to do with PS3 games?
Look at the post above you if you are trying to accuse PS3 owners of being the ones who do not like the idea.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I still think the concept was rushed out too early with Kinect when they should have done more R&D on it personally. It's a good concept that's not powerful enough so a lot of things feel tacked on when it comes to dealing with vet gamers.

It is software but the software exists and is being run inside Kinect. So instead of a game maker needing to license or develop their own voice recognition software and then integrate it into their code they can basically access the existing software inside Kinect which is parsing the voice data for them. It makes it much easier to implement voice recognition into their game which means more games will be likely to do so.

The Kinect hardware itself is pretty advanced and actually contains better components than are currently being used. The bottleneck here is really the 360. If you've seen Kinect working on PCs you'll see it's much more accurate and there is less lag. They've already improved the tracking considerably through software upgrades even with the 360.
There is no reason existing Kinect sensors couldn't be used on the next gen Xbox and give you much better results than you are seeing now.
