Wifi. 3G would be cool, but that extra cash isn't so easy to come by. The idea of playing wipeout on the fly is tempting though.

If it was Verizon I'd get 3G, but Att is complete crap. The last thing I want is to get back into a contract with them.
Will both versions have GPS or only the 3G version? (Does anybody know?)

apparently the 3g versions exclusive features are only for use in terms of "social" applications like the near feature and not for actual mobile gaming ( which i guess is obvious since the bandwidth required for actual multiplayer gaming is too high for 3g or 4g ) so i'd have to say that for me personally i don't really see the appeal for it... so its wifi only for me

Probably. I couldn't imagine any way that GPS would work with WiFi only. Barring magic, as soon as you were out of range of an open WiFi access point the device would be stuck on last known co-ordinates.
Maybe not the best selling point for a $50 option, but I'm willing to make a $50 assumption that the 3G option will bring a bit more to the device than just extended range mobile gaming options and GPS.
The wifi only model could still use the GPS. You would just have to use it as a list of directions instead of it telling you when to turn and where you are. Just upload the map before you leave your house or a wifi spot.
