PS VITA Screen not as good as Apple Retina Display....WHY???

Forums - Sony Discussion - PS VITA Screen not as good as Apple Retina Display....WHY???

Okay everyone will agree that Sony' slick looking new handheld the Vita packs one hell of a punch!

Seems like sony spared no expense to cram as much CUTTING EDGE technology under the hood of that bad boy as possible!

YES, under the hood the PS Vita is second to none among handheld gaming devices in every facet.

However, perhaps the most important part of any gaming device is the screen, and this is where I think Sony missed an opportunity.

I was curious as to why they wouldn't try top or at least match the Apple Retina display?

Is there something in the hardware that prevents compatibility??

Apple's iPhone 4 will be almost 2 years old by the time the PS Vita hits American shores.

Please help me figure this out...thanks!

I think it is because it isn't that big a deal. The games look fantastic and it helps to keep the price down.

What? The vita screen is oled.

only pixel density is less but it is close to HD and you can't notice

and OLED is be way better than LCD in colour production and contrast and brightness

Okay i did not know this.  My friend who has an iPhone claims RETINA is the best in the world

I don't like apple products at all, but I wasn't sure if he knew what he was talking about.

I'm not much of a technophile

Have you read anyone impression of Vita's screen?

Retina display is bullshit in my opinion.

For example you mentioned it has a 800:1 contrast ratio.

My Samsung Captivate has a Super AMOLED screen with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and produces much superior colors from my standpoint. iPhone 4 beats it in whites I believe.

I also heard that Retina display requires a back light, AMOLED does not.

Vita display probably also requires one, but if this thread is about wanting it to have a superior screen to what it has now, you would need to be asking for an AMOLED.
