Forums - Sony Discussion - Shuhei Yoshida: Wii U it will likely inspire PS Vita developers

develop managed to get shuhei's opinion on the Wii U and the idea the PSV and PS3 could do something similar.
http://www.develop-online.net/news/37930/Yoshida-Wii-U-will-inspire-Vita-experiments

"It is very interesting the ways that Nintendo went with Wii U, and I was surprised it wasn't exactly as it had been rumoured," Yoshida told Develop at E3.

"Already people are starting to ask about linking Vita and PS3 to do something similar, in terms of using two screens, and having controls on the screen.

"That's very interesting, and we will have to experiment," he added, before suggesting that such work was already, to a certain extent, underway.

"Lots of the things that developers of Vita games are doing, as you may have seen, is experimenting with connectivities between Vita and PS3.

"The Wipeout [2048] team came up with their cross play ideas, and the other Vita teams have come up with ways of playing with two systems. It's just a matter of time, as we provide the SDKs to developers so they can make use of both PS3 and Vita, and they might come up with something interesting."

I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

well if they do, only trouble with that is that you need not only a $400 home console, but then another $250 system for just the starting gate. or what is ps3 right now price wise?

then how do you track this? out of the 50 million ps3 users and XX amount of Psv users how many have both? i guess by singing onto psn and linking or whatever they coudl get a figure, but then what do they do? do they announce regularily that currently there are 5 million people that have BOTH of our systems?

or how do they let developers know that there is a market for these types of gaming experiences?

its kind of like move. sure it has sold 8 million, but where is its support software wise? when something is not implemented from the get go its tough to pick up.

it would most likely be targeted at the already existing ps3 owners who are interested in the PSV.  getting support will probably be a problem but if developers are doing it for nintendo anyway then they might as well give it to the PSV, PS3 combo as well, this would make developers more interested in developing for the Wii U as well if it fails to impress one group of console owner it might just take of with the other group of console owner reduce risk.

you can get a ps3 now for $300 but by the time the wii u launches im sure the ps3 will have dropped to $200 and considering that the wii u will likely be over $350 the real question here will be who would want to buy it when they can get both a ps3 and psv for a comparable price given that the psv will also be portable... but thats my take

you think the ps3 will drop in price $100 in a year?  highly doubtful.   I can see it POSSIBLY being $250.   I dont' see a price cut until they hear of Wii U's price.  Then depending on that, they will drop or not.  Right now PS3 is selling great, why drop price?

I don't understand why people think it will be so easy for the Vita/PS3 combo to be linked. I didn't see anything in the Sony conference that really made me think they could be linked in a way similar to the Wii U. I understood the Ruin demo, and talking about being able to play the game on both platforms and such, but nothing was said about being able to use the Vita as a controller or extra screen for PS3 games. Did I miss something? (not being sarcastic, really did I miss something?) I'm not saying it's not possible, but some seem to have jumped to the conclusion that it is inevitable.

LISTEN TO THE FIRST WORLD PODCAST REAL GAMERS, REAL AWESOME

100% of Wii U users will have their touch screen controller at a lower total price. Devs won't make extra features to give advantage to PSV users because that can be game breaking.

yea i don't get it either.  from what i've read it seems nintendo is using hardware that allows for multiple screens.  is it possible to firmware update this into a ps3?  i doubt it.  so would seem a NEW ps3 model woudl have to come out to be able to do this

Probably because the PS3 and PSP can already be linked in some way through Remote Play, where games and movies on the PS3 can be streamed to the PSP. It's not that much of a stretch for PSVita to have a little bit more functionality than that.
