Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Nintendo always going to be behind Microsoft and Sony in graphics?

Thats exactly why i know for sure i wont be buying the wiiU at launch. I might as well just keep my ps3 *which will be cheaper then the wiiU* AND the ps4 will kill it in graphics and it will be a redo all over again. Oh and i am pretty sure miyamoto himself said that the wiiU has ps3/360 graphics.

Really have to nip this one in the bud quickly. His words were, i'll be generous and say misinterpreted, by a journalist, in that they've merely "reached," that level. Some of what we've been shown indicates something more

It's been their modus operandi for three consoles already to sell past gen hardware with gimmick at current gen prices.

What an excellent, inflamatory post!

Now, kindly leave your den under the bridge and go hop on the failboat.

First, let's assume that you mean home systems when you say consoles.  While it's true that Wii is much weaker than the PS3, the GC was more powerful than the PS2 and the N64 was more powerful than the PS1 (albeirt limited by storage medium).

If you mean home OR portable consoles, then... well... you are still wrong.  PS3 is more powerful than Wii, and PSP is more powerful than DS, BUT the GC was still more powerful than the PS2 and you said "three consoles".

It's weird.  I made a post after you made your post and said virtually the exact same thing that you said--even the part in the parenthesis!!  Thing is, I never read your post until about five seconds ago.  The similarities are kinda scary.

I saw that too.  However, I must admit that - if you factor 3DS into the equation - then I suppose he would be correct based on his listing of 3DS, Wii and DS.  However, the debate of what constitutes a console is hotly debated (especially by those tryng to compair or contrast DS and PS2 sales).  The wording is still bothersome though.

But even then, I wouldn't call the DS or the 3DS "Last gen" considering that when the DS launched, no portable console before it has as much power.  Same goes for the 3DS which packs a hell of a lot of power, too (if some videos are to be believed) AND tosses in 3D.  I'd say the only time Nintendo went the underpowered route was with the Wii.  Besides that, it's been pretty comparable to its competition.

On par? How would you know this? if i recall , There were NO Wii-U games shown on the floor and Nintendo haven't released the specs for it. All we know right now is that It's powered by IBM's Power 7 which puts The cell and xbox 360's CPU to shame.

Absolutely not to the degree your suggesting.

1. MS and Sony will NOT produce the type of leap in hardware that this generation saw.
2. WiiU when fully detailed will be proven to be 5 to 10x more powerful than PS360.
3. MS and Sony will at best be 5x more powerful than WiiU solely because they will strive to be more powerful but won't want to get raped for the first three years with loss leading hardware.

Many of you are simply being unrealistic. Both companies have demonstrated their desire to be satisfied with what they have and not want to bleed money again. They will put out new consoles within a year of WiiU's launch just because they don't want to be seen as 'old' or last gen. Considering that all signs are showing that WiiU will have the latest CPU and GPU architectures, its not like MSony will have much room to improve without creating another $600 device.

They will all aim for price of $300-$400. Thus, they will all be within the same realm of power.

PS2 certainly didn't lose out because it was technically inferior to Xbox/GC. Aditionally, 3rd parties don't have any interest in large scale exclusives unless the console maker is heavily paying for it. Expect every one to essentially get the same 3rd party games with minor tweeks similar to how PS3's MK game had God of War's Kratos.

Visual differentiation is in the past. We won't be able tell much of any difference anymore. Now its up to the system specific uniqueness and 1st party games.

Lol @ "possibly on par with PS360" You are basing that off - I can only assume - the tech demoes shown at E3 with a year before the release of the console, comparing them to the best graphics produced on the PS3 to date.

Perfect Dark 0, a fairly well respected launch title for the 360.

And a tech demo. Inevitably, the final game will be much more polished

Is this really going to happen? It's like the xbox is more powerful than Wii bullshit again, except even more preposterous this time

PS3 had tech demos in 2005 that still look better than anything on the console, or so I heard from another topic, so don't latch onto that Zelda video too tight for proof.

That's true. The Killzone 2 video was a little ridiculous in hindsight.

What I actually want to add is that Nintendo and Sony have very different agendas. Nothing from memory indicates that Nintendo would be interested in playing that game.

dafuck?

KZ2 looked better than that tech demo, and killzone 3 blew that shit out the water *insert notsureifseriouslyjpeg*

In 2012 Nintendo will be far ahead.

Above: still the best game of the year.

All rumors are pointing to Power 7 and R700 GPU. This would put it roughly 5-6 times the raw computing power of xbox 360/PS3.

MS and Sony are going to have to throw a lot of money to get a system that makes the Wii U look obsolete like 360/PS3 vs WIi. The most I see them doing is releasing a system with a 6900 equivalent, and even then the actual difference in graphics quality would not be too noticeable since we are reaching the point of diminishing returns.

How can you even suggest this, computers will keep getting more powerful and games will continually look better.  In 20years you will look back at top of the line PC games now and laugh at how shit they are.  Look at games like GT5 photomode, one day cars in GTA will look like that.   Look at top of the line CG now, one day our games will look like that and it won't be for a long time.  Game graphics have just touched the surface of what can be done.
