Let me know what you think because I'm in the same band as Augen.

Will do!

In the mean time, I will let you all know that this Ninja Gaiden looking game is coming to Vita:

I would say that it's because of the need to protect the IP. Publishers are very risk averse and relying on fewer franchises these days, and watering down the name like that would put their flagship franchises in jeopardy.

I would say that, but then Square slaps Final Fantasy on everything, including irredeemable trash like All the Bravest. So I don't really know the answer.

I was thinking exactly about this game. If they make such crap, they could make a decent dungeon crawler with the same budget as the niche companies, but using characters from older FF games and voila. Would sell more than any other Vita jRPGs, aside from P4G, just because it has FF on the cover. And maybe, just maybe, we'd get a decent game or two out of it and it would surely help the sales of the console. But no, we get All the Bravest instead...

But this is the paradox. Low budget games of popular Intellectual Properties did exist on the PSP (for example the two Metal Gear Ac!id) and do expecially exist in the smartphone universe, for example all the card games by SquareEnix, Sega, and even Kojima with "Social Ops".

This kind of games can sell, and can also be a flop. Right now, I just read on siliconera that Ark System is making a dance game with the characters of Blaze Blue; also, there's a Blaze Blue card game on iOS. But wouldn't have been better to do a JRPG???...

In any case, nothing on Vita, and this is disappointing.

As an explanation, I think that also a placement factor comes into the equation, at this point. Those "cheaper games" must be marketed as free downloads. That means FREE (with micro transactions later) and DOWNLOADS, so no physical version. But the Vita environment is quite traditional, and users (including me) are of the "big cames on cart" school. So, perhaps, the software houses favor the smartphones: wide installed base, and free download oriented users.

At the moment, I'm seriously considering getting a smartphone, to play the games on Mobage, expecially Shingeki no Bahamut. But all those mobage games could be made very easily to run on the vita too, instead we got only Million Arthur, and in Japan only...

Does anyone know what are the differences (non visual) between Meruru on PS3 and Meruru Plus on Vita?

PS3 Meruru has DLC separate that you have to buy, Vita Meruru has it all in the base game.

Vita version has various nerfs/buffs to attacks and enemies (you can read a lot of them here):

I think there's also a new ending in Meruru Plus, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

And the biggest difference... Atelier is a series that feels more natural on handhelds than home consoles, in my opinion :P

edit:

If you go through the tabs on this page (i.e. New Costume; New Events etc.) you can see everything they changed.

Thanks for the info. I do prefer playing them on the Vita. It's just that I feel like playing it but I missed the xmas sale on Meruru, so it'd be cheaper to get the PS3 version. I'll wait some more. I hope this year the EU store gets a Golden week sale like US did last year.

I suggest staying away. I've given mobage so much money in 2014. It's rather unhealthy.

Agree with your disappointment, but the two things could be related. Vita is struggling, big developer/franchises desert it, hence an opportunity opens up for dungeon crawler, otome games and other niche products to shine and have some play and attention from the users.

On the other hand, little developers could avoid Nintendo because they can't compete with Mario or Pokemon.

The thing that gets me though, is why can't the big devs make smaller titles, similar to these niche games and slap the name of their big franchise on it. I'm aware there is no chance to get a full-blown FF game, etc. but they could form a small team that would make a similar dungeon crawler with FF flavour. Just like Hyrule Warriors is a typical musou game but with Zelda flavour slapped on it. I mean, they make these shitty mobile games, why not make such small projects? It's not like Japanese devs have found much success with their top products in the last gen. Oh well, I'm still mainly interested in older wRPGs and I'm still hoping Sony ports some of them soon.

I think its because big western pubs have this mentality of "if it cant be turned into a cash cow franchise then dont bother". They dont want minimal returns by investing in a low budget game for handhelds or even psn games  instead invest in high AAA titles for huge profits and if they do make low budget its usually mobile games with transaction galore.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont
