Forums - Sales Discussion - 360 Numbers don't add up!

Monty said: The funny thing in all this, is after we've seen the NPD numbers and the shipped number for the 360, it makes nexgenwars look like they were a lot more accurate than this site, as their 360 numbers were considerably higher and the Wii number considerably lower. I'm not a fan of either site, but the appearance is definitely there to the casual viewer that it was more on target.
Why do you continue to do this? Nexgen is was less accurate than this site. Time and time again. This site has 5.38 for NA, way more than NPD at 4.5, so it has accounted for all of NA it looks like. Japan only has .32 million for fact. So together that's 5.7. Do you really think Europe and others have purchased 4 million? Nexgen has 9.8 million listed right now.

All I have to say is this Monty, to your original vs. 360 question. Thru November 2006 - 360 - 3.775 million (according to NPD US sales) Thru November 2002 - Box - 3.93 million (according to NPD US sales) Japan January 2007 - 360 - 320,000 (based on weekly Japan reports) Japan January 2003 - Box - 350,000 (based on weekly Japan reports) Somehow, you have convinced yourself that the other regions (canada, europe, etc) are sellling disimilar to the ones listed above. And I see no reason to show that they would.

Monty said: Point taken... I do not expect it to be exact, and nobody will ever have an exact number. What I do want is it to be reasonable. And at the end of the year, it showed 7.9 million consoles sold, and MS released they had shipped 10.4 million - a difference of 2.5 million consoles (25% of the ENTIRE life of the stock). What *I* strongly felt was that was WAY low and WAY out of whack... I still believe that. I think common sense and logic would follow that 1 out of every 4 Xbox's ever sold is not sitting on a store shelf. What I also would like is for it to give a date on when the figures are through. That's not unreasonable, is it? What I'd also like is for people to quit telling me how "transparent" this site is, as that clearly is not the case. Nobody knows where or how he arrives to these figures. Therefore, it should be taken for what it's worth. However, I find that most people here will fight to the death over these figures as if they are 100% accurate, and somehow my estimations are less valid.
I would agree that the Xbox 360 totals looks a little too low, and that Wii appears a little high, but that is my guess. This debate would be more interesting if it was 2012 and the systems the systems were tied, but now there is still a significant gap between the two systems. It just doesn't matter if there is 4 or 5 million seperating the systems, this site won't be able to pull a fast one and trick people into believing GC beat XBOX for example. Look at the below link. It will help you understand this site. http://www.vgcharts.org/welcome.php No claim that this site is 100% accurate

Lifetime Sales Prediction - 6/29/2013
Wii U - 38 million
XBOX One - 88 million
Playstation 4 - 145 million

Hahaha... why did you leave out Dec data, we know figures for both... in 2002 the Xbox sold 600k, the Xbox 360 sold 1.1 million this year. That puts the 360 ahead. And, my original statement still stands... the 360 is on pace to hit 14.5 million a FULL year before the Xbox, and is on pace to FAR outsell the Xbox. If you'd like to put money on this, I'd gladly accept!

However, following that link says that it is "accurate as possible" and they are meticulous in their calculations. So, I can expect it to be logical. Telling me that 1 of every 4 Xbox 360's ever made is on store shelves is not logical and not "accurate as possible" in my book.

I do think that nexgenwars is too high on the 360... no question. However, not everybody is number geeks like us. As I said, the "casual" viewer will see the NPD Dec stats and see the MS press release of 10.4 million and that site *looks* FAR more accurate than this one to them.

That is funny how you have been pushing their 9+million number and never showed how the NA has sold more than 5 million. The Wii and the PS3 numbers are a little high but the 360 numbers are not at all to low. It is pure fantasy that you are living in if you are happy to live in a fantasy world be my guest. But that does not prove they are too low.

Fine Monty. According to NPD here is the figure for December 2002. 1.04 million Not 600k.

I think the Wii numbers may be a lot higher than what they should be (maybe by 500k or so). According to NPD they only sold 1.1 million in US for 2006. Just under 1 million in Japan. No idea on Europe. But I bet it's less than Japan or US or close. 1 million let's say, so add in Canada at 10% and you get 3.2 million not 4. I think PS3 numbers are fairly close. 470k for Japan, 690k for US, plus Canada 70k more. 1.23 million.+ whatever sells have occured after NPD stopped recording figures for December.

My point is the 360 was the closest of the 3 the wii is off because of bad estimates on how many wii consoles would be produced and the PS3 numbers are a week ahead IMO both about 20% off due to the consoles are new and the numbers so low that it is easy to be off. But with the 360 vgcharts are not 20% off because of the high number by the data given they can only be off by +/- 5%(giving monty the benefit of the doubt they are off).
