So because Nintendo is going after the "hardcore", and Microsoft is going after the "casual" they are going in the right direction. But Sony who is trying to do both isn't? And the main reason why is you don't think they can be effective at it?
Its funny now that Nintendo is going after the "hardcore", they are going in the right direction and not the wrong direction like Sony and Microsoft were when they launched.
And exclusives do make a huge difference, what would Nintendo be without Mario or the Wii lineup? Where would Microsoft be without Halo or Gears of War. Where would Sony be without Uncharted and Gran Turismo? So to say that exclusives are overrated is ignorant.
1) Back when the Wii was released, none of us thought that it was to be a CASUAL system since that fucking word wasnt being used until SHORTLY AFTER. I do not remember hearing that BULLSHIT of a word outside of PORN.
2)The Wii line up in the beginning looked like it was getting core support, with a few party games and such put into the fray. Then suddenly, after knowing that a lot of third party bullshit that they put on the Wii flopped, there were no longer enough core games being made on a yearly basis.
The direction they took was more of a less powered system compared to the competition to reduce dev costs which was supposedly a reason for third partys to go to their system. Oh and lets not forget about the horrible image nintendo had since the N64 toward third parties.
I'm glad that Nintendo is going in the "core" direction with decent to amazing third party games coming to the system, with a handful of party esque games. The question is, will Nintendo's image change when people see what they have to offer? I'm expecting more new third party games that cannot be done on the ps3 and 360 by the end of this year to be announced. But of course, It's nintendo so they might get screwed over again.
1)Their were many who thought so and that was also one of the reasons why the Wii got many doom articles...
2) That is not entirely true, the only games that were doing well were party games made by 3d party like Rayman rabbids while others that were not party games like Red steel/ssx blur flopped and it is not like Rayman rabbids was a way better game.... 3d parties just didn't see how you can make a great game with motion controls that would not end up being a party game and it didn't help one of the most hyped Nintendo games Brawl (possible stil has the biggest thread on VG) made people rush to the store for getting gamecube controllers if even Nintendo have a hard time making a great game with motion controls then what should ya expect from a 3d party developpers?
Yeah I remember those doom articles about the Wii mainly because of its name though. Red steel was utter garbage and was made look "decent" during that e3 conference of 06. Motion controls do not suit fighting games IMO, but they can work out in adventure and shooting games, and even RPGs. There aren't any excuses for 3rd party crappy efforts except for the fact that they couldn't and wouldn't port some of the bigger 3rd party titles to the system because of it being 20x weaker than the competition. But that didn't stop a couple of games from looking the best and standing out from all the games on the Wii (SMG1 and 2). If there were more games made by 3rd parties that had that kind of detail in them, people wouldn't feel cheated on when buying a game, and would obviously end up selling just fine.
Now at the end of the Wiis life, we are seeing a handful of games that dont look half bad (TLS, etc..), but sadly it wont sell well because people seemed to stop caring about the better games coming out on the Wii (which are a handful). I even gave up on the Wii after DKC returns.
Nintendo having hard time making a great game with motion controls seems to be Nintendos own fault. They didn't really showcase what a Wii game with good graphics and sharp motion controls can do. That game IMO will be Skyward Sword, but it's too late now. Nintendo did this shit to themselves. They set expectations of people too high during e3 06, and this was the result.
