Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony to Sell PlayStation Vita at a Loss, Profit Expected in Three Years

I wonder how big the loss is? Couldn't be that much though

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

it won't be the same situation as the ps3. I won't be surprised if it's a pretty small amount.

Well if the statement says three years, it is a pretty big at first.

i think they should have lowered a few specs/features, to make the profit wait no later than 16 months too happen. if sales for this dont happen, like they want it too be. then this could be there last entry into the handheld market i think, i hope not. since i really like my psp system and i will get the psvita, i just want them to make a profit sooner than later.

wow 3 years. and to think nintendo is selling the 3ds at a 150 profit well somewhere around that range. I honestly think they should have lowered certain specs.

Someone in another thread said that Sony was selling the NGP at a profit. I knew they were wrong.
Also how big of a loss are we talking here? If they lose enough money, and the 3DS takes off, Sony could be in trouble.

SONY also said from the begining they had an set price so they could be breaking even and not losing at all. Also with ball the games funding and advertising funding most likely the PSV could be making an profit but its being consumed by other factors.

There is no way that SONY would put them selves in an ps3 situation again since they are currently in not the best situation right now.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Three years is a long time. Anything can happen. The PSV can take off and be a huge success or people can start looking at Tablets, Phones, or some other device for their portable gaming fix. The competition has never been fiercer for our handheld gaming time and money. I hope Sony knows what they're doing.

Doesn't look like the same kind of risk as PS3 to me.

They'll probably sell like 25M/35 units at a loss, and the other (expected) 55/45 at a profit?

Whatever, I think the price point is a good one and worth the risk.

I think they had one situation that could have been best situation, which was completely build mobile gaming with Android platform. (I don't count playstation play really a good attempt). We gamers would hate it, but it would have been a course of action that would make money.

To top it all off, it would hurt Nintendo if gaming really took of in the mobile platform.
