Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Nintendo WiiU: Hate Vs Love

I'm a little iffy about the lack of Wii games announced, but hopefully they will still come. I'd like to see XB and TLS just as much as anyone, but as much as there is the possibility that they won't be at E3 at all, there's also the possibility that both will be announced when we're least expecting it: remember what happned to Tales of Graces F and Dragon Quest VI? Neither were announced at E3, but we still got confirmation for both eventually. Maybe I'll just go by that thinking.

What suprises me is that how this thing is gonna be a BEAST since it's suppose to be packing the more current IBM POWER7 instead of the older and still competent POWER6!!! It's so non-Nintendo since they usually use the more tested (older but still competent) for their systems; ie PICA200 for use on the 3DS!!!

here is more info on Wii U and Power7

I don't visit other sites, so this is the only video game community I know. If what I am hearing is right, this site is down on Nintendo while everyone else is high on Nintendo right now? Makes sense. The community around here has grown a little wacky over the past year or two. I think it has something to do with the fact that we are more sales focused. Any time the sales winds shift, the community seems to overreact.

I'm glad to hear that others also liked what they saw from Nintendo.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
Switch - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
Switch - Bastion (2011/2018)
3DS - Star Fox 64 3D (2011)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Wii U - Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (2010/2017)
Mobile - The Simpson's Tapped Out and Yugioh Duel Links
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

i love the concept, but im not totally sold yet. as i said in another thread, this thing has near unlimited potential, but it ultimately comes down to whether third parties(and to some extent, Nintendo themselves) tap that potential or not. i also want to see a Nintendo game or two at launch, and more info about the console itself. i don't love it, but i certainly like what im seeing so far.

I think the WiiU is a great machine. However, the part that irritates me about it is that that is what the original Wii should have been. If that was the case, then nintendo fans wouldnt have to invest in a new machine next year and would be on par with PS3/360. I feel like they are getting jipped. Watching the conference, the attendees were getting all hyped when seeing the games releasing on the WiiU, but these games will be releasing on the PS3/360 (some of them will be released first on the HD twins).

I am still a little skeptical about the controller. Its concept is cool, but it is just enormous! How much would a stand alone controller cost? It cant just be 50 bucks! Is it comfortable to hold for a lengthy period of time? Lots of other questions come to mind. So although I wont buy it, I would still like to be convinced that it is a worthy purchase.

Also, I don't really consider it next gen. There isnt anything about it that was next gen. The controller is truley its saving grace. Time will tell.

I just find it funny how Sony/360 went after the casual crowd with their move/kinect, and now nintendo is going after the core crowd with WiiU. It is one crazy generation!

I think it is important to try to see things from the mental frame that Nintendo said, "wide AND deep".  The WiiU not only does it end up being cool for core gamers, the new controller, being a touch screen, also is more accessible for casual gamers to.  I can see boardgame stuff EASILY having the WiiU as a system of choice.  You can now do card games on a home console.  Plus lay it down, and do a boardgame on it to.  The touch screen is an easier interface than the current set up.

The reactions to the Wii U reveal is starting to remind me a lot of the Wii reveal ...

Pockets of gamers (many of whom have always been very anti-Nintendo) seem to display an irrational hatred to what Nintendo has displayed; while most other people have opinions that vary from interested/cautiously-optimistic to completely sold on the concept.

Sorry what? I'm still blinded and shocked with this tech demo, it was more than enough to make WiiU look worthy.

You know I linked that first in the e3 nintendo thread! :P

I personally am very interested to see what can be done with the Wii U (still one of the worst names I have ever heard of)

Graphics look absolutely sick for it though!
