Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Nintendo WiiU: Hate Vs Love

I am what you might label as core gamer, but friends would consider me hardcdore. I was disappointed by the lackluster announcement regarding Nintendo WiiU, but I know it is fully of potiential, and most importantly will play Nintendo games, thus I will buy and love it. Currently however I am disappointed by the appareance of it.

Well my friends individually just called my up, and are super hyped about this product, and all it has to offer. Not only that, but I noticed on other forums, the mood isn't as down as the one I am seeing on this forum.

Is something wrong? Am I missing something? Have I become elitist or something, and don't even know that I am one?  Does anyone else notice something similar?

Howerver I do love the tech demo for a possible Zelda game, and love my 3DS to bits.

I think that Nintendo's show was mainly to appeal to the casual/family consumers that bought the Wii. They want to draw them in first, and they will impress the hardcore gamers later. They don't want to give up their large casual fanbase by just showing hardcore games.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

To quote the vernacular, it looks like an EPIC FAIL for nintendo.

I love it but am sceptical at the same time.

I love the HD visuals and the fact that the screen on the controller will output 1080p HD feed. I can't wait to see what Nintendo can do with its franchises on this console. The possibilities for first person shooters etc...etc.. if the console can support four players at a time which I am sure it can. I also like how third parties seem to be all over it, though I noticed UbiSoft wasn't as active in Nintendo's interview compilation and list of announced titles.

However I am a sceptic about the controller. I love the Wiimote and I love the GameCube controller. But a controller with a 6-inch screen and analog sliders at the top. I'm just not sure how comfortable and practical this control system is. I also am scared to death each controller will sell for 99.99$. I mean were talking an HD screen on each controller these things should not cost 59.99$ like current controllers. I need to buy three more of them to play four player, that scares me.

Also Nintendo didn't show any of their first party software. They announced SmashBros but I would have liked to have seen some of Nintendo's software. But I guess the console does come out at least a year from now, plenty of time for Nintendo to show off some software. I just hope Nintendo gives the WiiU a decent price point, some great software at launch and the controllers priced competitively!

I really don't know about WiiU, did not understoof the concept, but sounds great from IGN's impressions

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

It's not that I hate it, I'm just confused by it. I wish Nintendo explained more about it, and especially actually show some games for it! It could turn out to be aswesome, but I just don't know enough about it yet, and I'm not particularly sold on the giant controller with a screen in the middle. I think it could be cool if you could use the touch screen like a DS for FPS games and control your movement on the screen.

It'll ultimately boil down to the games. That Zelda demo did look badass, hopefully it becomes a real Wii U game soon and looks as good as that.

your expecting too much too early.  nintendo could have done as sony or microsoft do and show a cg trailer for a crap load of games but why?

nintendo will obviously release a mario, metroid, zelda, ect you name it on this system.  But it is over a year away from being released.  Their goal was not to impress by listing a thousand games, but to inspire by showing what this controller could POTENTIALLY do to enhance or add to a gaming experience.

We saw a little clip of someone with the controller hooked upto a zap gun.  He was plaing on that screen.  Now its up to YOU to imagine what that could do.  Could this mean 4+ person co-op, multiplayer games where each person has their OWN screen and not splitting up the tv screen?  take games like WoW and you got all those abilities tha tyou can choose just a push of a finger away on the controller.  Take games like Fable or Dragon Age and their is no more radial menu, but instead jus tpush the button on the screen to select stuff and swtich magics and what not.  take a game like pokemon or Yugioh and you have the main tv as basically a movie while in your controller is your pokemon moves to select or your deck of cards to choose from.

i could continue on, but i'll let you do that.  Again this is NOT about listing their plethora of games, it is instead about letting us imagine what possibilities are available with this new device.

If they showed say a trailer for a new zelda, then all people would be talking about was what that new game would be like, whats teh setting, what the grahpics are like, is it dark, is it big, ect.  they would be talking about the games announced, and not about the new systems distinguishing feature.  Nintendo is trying to sell us on the controller, not on a game.  The controller's IDEA will sell us on hundreds of games, while zelda only sells us on one game

Yes I know, I guess I am a little bit um in impatient.

the name sucks. That's about all the opinion I had though. This affects nothing on the quality of the device.

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but Nintendo showed off a PLETHORA of third party games and interviews with third party developers about their excitement for the WiiU.

It's blatantly clear that Nintendo is trying to cater to and suck in the western third parties this gen and they seem to be off to a great start.

The controller does some absolutely awesome things and I am super excited about it. The Zelda tech demo looked beautiful and that's all I could ask for in the graphics department. The instant I bought a PC and realized that not even "next-gen" consoles would ever come near it, I stopped caring about console graphics. They're good for me. =)

I do agree that the Ninten-hate is completely centered around this website. Everywhere else I'm seeing people flip out and super excited about Nintendo's conference, and here everyone is boo-ing it to hell. Yet at the same time, everyone busted a nut yesterday at Sony's conference. I think the issue is just that this site's user base is so Sony-focused that the general viewpoint of the forum posters is going to be biased in that regard.

I think Microsoft really did all they could this E3 as far as announcements go, and I'm super excited about Halo 4 turning into a new trilogy. Sony made a kickass price-point for their Vita, and Nintendo really showed how unique and different the WiiU will be. I think all companies did fine this year.

Since I own a high-end PC-gaming PC, the most important thing to me as a console-owner is what the console can do DIFFERENT and UNIQUE to give me a great experience. If it's just more horse-power, it could never match the brute force quality of the PC, so it's entirely worthless. I want to see unique twists and takes on gaming, and Nintendo is definitely offering that!

E3 was the equivalent of a teaser trailer for the new system.  If one ended up expecting it to be more than that, right down to a lot of details, then one will be disappointed.  Nintendo has a full year to get info out.  As for me, I can't say I am disappointed, because that would mean it failed to meet expectations.  What the U did was do something in ways I didn't expect at all.  I didn't expect the touch screen to be the dominant part of the controller.

As far as titles go for the system, I saw them show Tekken, Darksiders and Dirt.  They spoke to Irrational, so that has to mean that the Shock franchise is coming, along with EA games.  There are core titles coming for the system.
