Nope Wii U has brought back core games to Nintendo and that alone is significant.

I agree, they are bringing core GAMES to Nintendo, now I just wonder if the core GAMERS, who Nintendo has given plenty to be excited about, will actually come over, or will they find some new excuse to senselly hate on the Big N? I mean, HD? Yep. Third Party support? Yep (ARKAHM CITY YAY!!!) Expanded online support? Yep (not much on that yet, but it was mentioned a few times by both Nintendo and the EA guy). Sign me up.

Not that i dont agree, but all those things you mentioned have been done on current HDs for years. Arkham City will be out in OCt, you really think a core gamer who already has PS360 or both is going to plunk down 300 just to play a game they already own??? That would make no sense, especially if they dont care about Ninty titles

Do you think Nintendo needs those people? If the Wii U and continue to bring in the crowds that Wii currently has, plus steal aways those who say they want the what the HD twins have but also want the First party nintendo goodness, they will do just fine. It's the Wii60 philosophy, but all on one console. Why buy the HD twins, when you can get the same games PLUS Nintendo exclusives? I know this is an over simplification, but there are many gamers like myself who only want or can afford one system, why not the one that has the widest variety?

your making no sense, first you say that NInty will get that "core" gaming crowd, and since i said the wont really get it unless the features are really better and the games they get are exclusive, now you say they dont need them??? Your right they dont, but then why even try to have 3rd party "core" games with that attitude??? They should keep doing what they were doing with Wii. People who already have an HD console are not going to pluck money down just to get a port of a game they own. Look at the sales of ports if you dont believe me. RE4(PS2 version) & Okami are the only ones who did better than the original. I dont think its about affordability, i think its about outright fanboyism for some people. One could afford a Wii and nothing else, fair enough. You miss out on a bunch of 3rd party titles. Now you say you will buy a WII U which wiil be MORE expensive than the current HD systems?? Just buy the HD systems then

I did NOT say that Nintendo would get the "core" crowd. In fact, I sadly feel, based on reaction around here, that many core gamers will continue to hate on Nintendo, I just wonder what their reasoning could possibly be know that Nintendo has so overtly catered towards them.  Affordability is sort of the issue because, yes, faced with wanting to play the First party Nintendo games I've grown to love, versus the third party games I miss by not being able to own other systems, I choose Nintendo everytime. Now, with WiiU, I might not have to make that choice, at least during the early years of the system. That is very cool to me. Frankly, I don't care what anyone else wants out a system, I just know what I want, and Wii U seems to be pointing in that direction more than any other console since the PS2 as far as variety of gameplay choice.

LISTEN TO THE FIRST WORLD PODCAST REAL GAMERS, REAL AWESOME

Around the Network

If the online is good, I'll buy one the minute smash bros. comes out. I know I'm not alone in this,

I thought the new controller looked AWESOME! Especially the part where someone else can come and watch the telly and you can continue to play the game on the screen as if it was a handheld. That was a good idea. Hope the opposition don't end up stealing this idea again. What disappointed me about this years' conference was the lack of Wii games. I know the titles were shown on the screen at the end but surely it wouldn't have been too much of a problem to show a rolling montage of game footage of them on the screen as the attendees filed out?

I found the demo showing what the Wiiu could do, with the bird flying around as AMAZING graphics. They looked photorealistic to me. Am sure there will be no problems on the graphics front for the Wiiu. The philosophy that the Wiiu is going after ALL gamers seemed spot on too. If they could pull that off it would be an amazing achievement. The ultimate business model.

I think the main problem for me was that there were unrealistic expectations due to leaked "so called" documents showing an amazing line-up of games for project cafe as it was then known. Timed exclusive GTAV, bioshock etc. That was just an amazing list of so-called games and the hype they could have generated would have been impossible to keep up with-unless they were all announced, which, in hindsight would never have happened. Far too hopeful. I felt a bit underwhelmed because- even though i'm not a particular fan , i kept waiting and expecting an announcement of the Rockstar CEO or something, coming onto the stage to announce GTA5 timed exclusive for Wiiu. All because of that damned list. Kept expecting some kind of MEGATON announcement. Which never came.

In short. Conference was quite good but because of leaked (fake) documents, maybe peoples' expectations were too high.

It's kind of funny actually, but that is the truth of the matter!!

the graphics are amazing, clearly exceeds what we've seen on Xbox360/Ps3, but Nintendo haters are too blind to see it

I think WiiU really has everything and will get massive support, seems underestimated at first like with the Wii....

having Wii games and controllers support is great idea

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Is the second video in game graphics? Cause that looks fantastic!

Around the Network

It's a "tech" demo, it's probably graphics WiiU can produce (since Nintendo says they want gamers back)

Think I'm gonna sell my Wii and buy this. What do I have to lose, right?

I just hope it's compatible with the Gamecube games, or if they at least release all the GC goodies onto the Wii U.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Yup, it's an interactive demo that can be played at E3. I think it's pretty safe to say the WU has the PS360 beat.

all i can say is i feel sorry for all wii owners. for a system that should sell well for at least another 2 -3 years, its pathetic to show really nothing except 1 game

Based on expectations of what they'd show I can understand the disappointment. Even I was let down that they didn't have even one of their IPs present in fully playable HD form.

However at E3 '05, a year before the Wii's big showing in '06, what did they show? The console in Iwata's hands... that's it. We saw nothing on the Wii remote until much later that year. At least now they showed off how the controller works, announced some third party games and shared what developers think of it.

And the controller btw, from what I've heard so far from people who have actually played it now (as opposed to us at home making threads), sounds very cool and is comfortable to boot.

This line here at the end of the page I saw clicking above, particularly the part I bolded, seems to be THE way to differentiate yourself these days from your competitor:

The controller is the best of both worlds, mixing traditional button inputs with the advantage of having an interface unlike anything we've seen from a home console.
