Forums - Sony Discussion - Thoughts on Sony's Press Conference

Now, what are your thoughts of Sony's Press Conference? Because Sony has 3 consoles to talk about during this E3, I will separate This blog into 3 sections

PS3

Sony announced only announced 5 PS3 titles. With the exception of the HD/3D God of War port, none of the announced titles have a 2011 release date.

  • Dust 514
  • God of War: Origins Collection
  • Medieval Moves: Dead Man’s Quest
  • Sly Cooper: Theives in Time
  • Starhawk

Street Fighter x Tekken will Include Cole from InFamous for both PS3 and PS Vita versions, and Medievil Moves is a new Move title.

Sony also annouced that the following games will receive Move support, but did not announce and Move exclusive titles

  • Bioshock Infinite
  • NBA2K12
  • Saints Row 3
  • Star Trek

PS Vita

Sony announced a fall release for PS Vita starting at $250 for the WiFi only model, and $300 for the 3G model. Sony also announced 9 exclusive games, but other HD titles will see a PS Vita version, which won't be altered much due to system spec similarities (e.g. Street Fighter vs. Tekken)

  • Hot Shots Golf
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Mod Nation Racers
  • Ruin
  • Samarai Warrior(?)
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • Wipeout 2048 (Exclusive?)
  • Plus 2 more titles, but didn't see a name for them. Were shown in an overview video

PSP

Sony did not announce any PSP games, nor show an new footage for upcoming PSP Games (Such as Final Fantasy Type 0)

Conclusion

I missed the very start of the shpw because I was out, but from what I read I only missed an apology for PSN's outage. Sony did not show any footage of The Last Guardian, Agent or Twisted Metal. Did Sony announce enough content for you?

For PS3 the current fall exclusive lineup is (assuming no more games are delayed into 2012):

  • Disgaea 4
  • Resistance 3
  • Twisted Metal
  • Uncharted 3

and for Move there are also tentive releases for

  • Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest
  • Sorcery.

I feel like I'm missing a few PS3 games, but then again Disgaea 4 doesn't have a confirmed release date, so it shouldn't even be in the list above. I guess to be fair Sony had a strong first half of 2011, where MS had nothing.

Now what's your opinion? Personally I'm really disappointed. Not one new AAA title, and no new light was shed on The Last Guardian or Agent. What they did announce I think was a joke, but Dust is a great concept. Online multiplayer gaming should be free and cross platform, MS did it before with Lost Planet, but why did those greedy boys stop? To Me, the PS3 showing was the worst PS3 showing yet. PS Vita had a decent opening, but too much info was leaked before E3, and nothing for PSP.

Your thoughts?

You know, honestly, I thought it would have been better. PS3 games were not on the priority list and that is a shame. And what was up with that PS TV? That was out of left field.

I am really looking forward to Nintendo's E3 this year more than anything now. MS and Sony both disappointed me. If GTAV is announced during Nintendo's E3 of Cafe, that would just be epic.

XBOX LIVE: macr0planet

PSN: MacroPlanet_DSGN

Steam: MacroPlanet

Modern Warfare 2 - Uncharted 2 - Assassin's Creed 2 - Mass Effect 2 - Alan Wake - Forza 3 - Splinter Cell: Conviction - God of War 3

I enjoyed the conference to be honest.. I wasn't expecting much though.. However I was kind of baffled at some of the omissions.. (Last Guardian? Twisted Metal? PSP? Agent was nowhere to be seen AGAIN!)

PS Vita at $250 had some shock value though which I found to be lacking in Microsoft's presentation. I guess it depends on what sort of consumer you are, for example if you are interested in the PS Vita, it was pretty good but still not great (WHERE WAS THE THIRD PARTY SUPPORT!?), if you were only interested in finding out about new PSP or PS3 games then it was terrible..

I was only interested in seeing some demo's for PS3 titles that I knew about already so I enjoyed that aspect of it..

I'd probably give it a 6/10, same as I gave Microsoft, though without the low Vita price I probably would have only given it a 5/10.

I agree with you. At least MS announced Halo 4. To me that announcement edges MS above Sony, and then Halo 1 Remake, and a pretty decent selection of Kinect games (Ryse, Fable, Dance Central 2, etc) give it a solid victory. Sony's press conference annoyed me, 20 minutes they talked about 3D gaming, and really nothing good was announced.

However, both were bad in the end, both needed more exclusive games. Looks like 2012 will be the year of Nintendo...

8/10

Pros:

Resistance 3 looks niiiice!

Uncharted 3 and its sexy waves

Dust MMO which looks sick as hell!

NGP being $250

Bioshock with Move looks promising

The $499 3D TV bundle which looks quite amazing

Starhawk

Kobe Briant!

Cons:

Dragged on with some boring parts

An altogether very solid  conferece, pretty much nothing really epic and nothing really bad.

MS wins only because they announced Halo Remake and Halo 4

I think the Sony conference was solid on the PS3 side, including exclusive games and Move specific content.

I thought the Vita price was unexpectedly below what I thought they would ask for it - good on Sony. I am not a handheld gamer, so I won't pay that price for it, but for what it has, that price seems very competitive.

I was neither blown away by Sony's conference, nor disappointed in it. If Nintendo's is just as good as Sony's or Microsoft's, this would be a pretty vanilla E3 (IMO).

You forgot the exclusive Medieval Moves: Dead Man’s Quest for PS3... Team ICO Collection has September release too.

And PSVita had a lot more games too... Tenchu is a good example.

OT. I like the Sony conference but not so much like 2010 (or 2009)... so I give it a 8/10.

I thought it was kinda shitty. They skipped over a ton of titles. Where's my Final Fantasy XIII-2, Versus and Type-0? Where's Last Guardian? Hell, where are my five hours of conference? They had no surprises whatsoever, except for the Vita being $250, sweet price. That being said there were some pretty cool stuff in there. Lots of 3D and move support, good 3d tv bundle, and a good amount of PS3 games coming our way. Overall, I felt like they rushed it and skipped over half of the content that is still to come next year. Like the MS, underwhelming.

Can we have a trifecta of crappy E3 conferences this year?

¡Sí se puede!

(But I really hope not...)

It was boring. I felt like they replayed everything they already told over and over again.

The price for Vita was nice though.

6/10
