8/10. Way better then Microsoft's press conference. Sony actually got me excited during the show.

With What? They didn't announce a single new PS3 exclusive. PS Vita was cool, but PS3's showing wasn't that great to me. What the heck happened to PSP and FF Type 0?

Sly Cooper: Thieves, DUST and Star trek.... and I guess Medieval Moves: Dead Man’s.

Edit - Star Trek is not exclusive... Move support is... and God of War Origins is exclusive too (but there are the PSP version before).

Recap:

PSN Outage
Tretton comes out and tells the press “You’re welcome” for the PSN Outage for giving everyone something to discuss. Start with a joke, it’s a bad joke… but it’s still a joke.
The PlayStation Network is running at around 90% of what it previously was running at before the attacks.

PlayStation plan on giving free access to CinemaNow, adding to their current group of HuluPlus, Netflix and so many more.

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception
They kick off the show with a brand new trailer for E3. The video is a gameplay trailer showing Drake on a ship that seems to be in a horrific storm. The visuals in this trailer are beautiful, we’ll be hosting this one up later on so definitely keep an eye out for it. The video shows off a lot of new technology here, it’s almost a tech demo from Naughty Dog – it’s got dynamic lighting, water effects, physics… they’re just getting cocky here. Uncharted Multiplayer will begin on June 28th, and during October Uncharted fans can visit any Subway in the US and get a sneak peak of the full multiplayer version of Uncharted 3. Finally we’re left with a second trailer (also available in 3D) which ends with 11/1/11, the release date of Uncharted 3.

Resistance 3
One of the developers from Insomniac Games comes on the stage with possibly the campest looking PlayStation controllers I’ve ever seen.
Set a few years after the events of Resistance 2, Resistance 3 picks up right where we left off last time. The Resistance 3 trailer is 3 minutes long and it looks incredibly similar to Resistance 2.
Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition for $150 was announced, meaning you get the game plus a PlayStation Move bundle.

God Of War series, ICO and Shaddow of Collosus HD Remakes
Yep you read that right, all three of those titles will be remade in full HD on PlayStation 3.

PlayStation Branded 3D Displays
This is a first “Wow” here, Sony have announced a new television set that will be PlayStation branded display. You can play two player multiplayer without splitscreen, the monitor will split the screen visually so the each player will see an individual screen – no more coop split screen gaming! The bundle will be available as a bundle including Resistance 3, 3D Glasses, HDMI cable and the monitor for $499.

NBA 2K12
A new feature has been added called “NBA On The Move” giving gamers the ability to play NBA 2K12 with their PlayStation move whilst still “delivering the best NBA experience ever”
2K Games announce that “anyone can play this”, to prove it Kobe Bryant comes out and actually shows that not anyone can.
2K Games claim that on “October 4th NBA 2K12 will change the game.”

Medieval Moves: Deadman’s Quest
Next up is a decent looking Move title. As you may have guessed it’s a dungeons based “PS Move” style gameplay. It doesn’t look like it’s on rails (compared to damn near every Kinect game in Microsoft’s press conference earlier) and has an awful lot of different annimations for you to pull off.

inFamous 2
A preview trailer for one of PlayStation’s biggest titles starts this segment. Quite why they’re showing a title that is pretty much already available at E3 is beyond us here.

LittleBigPlanet 2
PlayStation Move compatability is coming in a future update, and will allow gamers to create their own Move titles for others to play.

StarHawk
Santa Monica Studios and Light Box debut a brand new “run and gun” (yes Jack Tretton used that phrase) title. A great looking debut trailer for the game, it shows very little gameplay but goes from FPS based gameplay to air combat all the way to space combat. We want more…

Sly Cooper: Theives of Time
A fun looking title, again no gameplay here at all but a decent short and funny trailer.

Dust 514
Hilmar Pétursson from CCP Games (EVE Online) comes on stage to announce a brand new FPS game entitled “Dust”. Dust will link with EVE Online to create a massive online world, linking with PC, PS Home, PS Move and the NGP. Hilmar claimed that the trailer he’s showing us is “what you’ll all be doing next summer”…. you might be right Hilmar, this looks absolutely outstanding. It’s a PlayStation exclusive with a closed beta hitting the end of the year, and a full release around Spring 2012.

BioShock: Infinite
Here’s the one we’ve all been waiting for, a brand new trailer (including some gameplay footage) for BioShock: Infinite. Ken Lavine from Irrational Games comes onto the stage and says that he definately had his doubts on the “Move mantra” and the movement style gameplay but they’re looking at it for the future. Ken holds up the NGP and says that they’ve got a brand new title coming soon on the NGP. Note, that everyone is calling this NGP in the conference so far… no doubt Sony will be saying it’s “real” name later.
If you purchase BioShock: Infinite for PS3 you’ll also get a free copy of BioShock 1 on the same BluRay disc.

Saints Row: The Third
Exclusive content will be coming to PS later this year.

Star Trek: The Game
As we already know, this is a coop friendly game that is based around the recent Star Trek Movie. It will be fully compatible with PS Move and that Paramount will be creating a working Phaser that will be compatible with the Move. They’re also created a PSN based “prequal” to the game to get you even more hyped.

EA Exclusives
SSX will have a Mount Fuji level that is taken from NASA satellite data.
Need For Speed: The Run – The game will be bundled with exclusive cars on PlayStation.
Battlefield 3: PS3 will have exclusive Battlefield 1943 bundled free on the BluRay.

The NGP
Kazuro Hirai comes on and managed to get the crowd to applaud Jack Tretton’s tie.

PlayStation Suite
The PlayStation Suite will allow PlayStation games and software to be played on Android and other smartphones and handhelds – Hirai says that we’ll have more information on this in the very near future.

It’s official the NGP is named PlayStation Vita
The Vita will have dual (front and rear) touchpads, an oLED mult-itouch screen, dual thumbsticks, front and rear touchpads. WiFi and 3G WiFi models will be available. Sony will partner with at&t (that didn’t sound like it went down very well) to bring mobile gaming and experiences. It also includes a six-axis control method and has a “Play the way you want” methodology meaning you can either tap, press or move the Vita to play a game.

Party Mode – users can chat through microphone to a party group anywhere you are.
Near – A social networking experience on your PS Vita, you can recommened games to friends and have content pushed out to your friends as well.

Gaming on the Vita

Uncharted – this looks absolutely outstanding. For a handheld game the graphics and gameplay in this game look absolutely brilliant. They show off the six-axis controls as well as the dual analogue stick controls, screen tapping and general “traditional” button based gameplay. They also showed off what they’re calling a “paint to play” style of gameplay, where you can queue commands through the touch screen.
Ruin – An action RPG style game where different characters are handled and controlled differently. The game comes with a brilliant feature where you can save your progress on your PS Vita, save it to the cloud and then carry on gaming on your PlayStation 3 at home. We’re not quite sure how this isn’t considered major news, considering this is absolutely breath-taking, imagine this, gaming at work or on a commute, come back home to your living room and then carry on where you left off on your wonderful 40″ television screen.
ModNation Racers – The guys show off the rear touch panels and touch screen in how to make your own levels throughout the game. Where the rear touch pushes the ground up (or out) making it higher, and then pushing the front touch panels makes the world push back down.
LittleBigPlanet -A great new trailer for LBP Vita, showing off all the new ways to play with touch, multitouch, tilt with the sixasis, dual controls and so much more. LittleBigPlanet on the PS Vita looks brilliant.
Street Fighter X Tekken – This got a big reaction from the crowd, as I’m sure you would expect. This was not expected at all. Announced today that we will be seeing a PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken, and that Cole from the inFamous series will be joining that cast of fighters.

The Vita will be available from the “holiday season this year” with two models available a WiFi model retailing for $249 (249 euros) and a 3G Model retailing at $299 (299 euros).

9/10

The only thing i didnt like is tht they didnt show last guardian or FF stuff.

Worse than I expected.....But it's still good. I only miss some surprises...

Also, Vita needs one or two more games beyond Uncharted to convince me to buy it.

Around the Network

Objectively better than MS by leaps and bounds but I was still disappointing by the disturbing lack of SCEJ and no journey presentation.

8/10

8/10.

Was 6/10 until they dropped the 249 price tag. Went to 10/10 until I was reminded it is named Vita.

7/10, I am excited about everything (Uncharted 3, PS Vita, Resistance...), but it was kinda expected, few surprises.

Try my new level at LittleBigPlanet: Amok's Cave ;D

LOL? right.... Sly4,ruins,Dust aint exclusive.

Im sorry but you saying your not bias is just laughable.

your complaining about lack of ps3 games when they announced more core games than what MS did in their conference yet your happy with MS showing sesame street and disney land  with a bunch of other shovel ware crap for almost the whole conference? LOL!!!!

I have two completely different ratings:

PS3 - 1/10 - None of the new games announced interest me even remotely (to put it mildly). 1 point 'cos they showed new Uncharted 3 gameplay and it looked great... but that was it. Worse than MS's 360 conference (2/10) fgs :S Can't believe I just said that, I feel like slapping myself. E3 2011 is so crap :(

I agree with this 100% PS Vita did look cool too, but I don't think it deserved the 8.5 you gave it. At least I agree with you on this part.
