All that Kinnect emphasis and Halo 4 on 2012 aren't enough. Are they?

Agree. Their losing was mostly a foregone conclusion, however losing didn't necessarily mean a bad show, but this... they had some good points and some games that should perform well, but wow...

I think unless they announced hardware they would always be in this position, but with what first party developers they have, they certainly had a good conference (too much Kinect and third party stuff multiplatform titles, but still)

That's Mission Impossible to have worse conference than Microsoft this year.

As far as entertaining by surprising it was weak, but they did bring out heavy hitters sales wise with Halo, Fable, Kinect kids games,and  more Gears. Still it does not satisfy the crowd watching because we want to hear about unannounced games.

Microsoft is trying to expand it's market and this conference has shown that. To the "Hardcore" gamers this seems lacking but that isn't what Microsoft is going after now. They have Gears 3, Halo Remake and 3rd party games to support the "hardcore" gamer. They have just about all the "hardcore" gamers they are going to get so now the focus is on the casual market so they can expand the market. Just wait till this holiday season when Kinect starts selling like mad again.

Forum dwellers act like exclusives are really important but that isn't entirely true. Sony is releasing many more exclusives than Microsoft and is outselling it by only a small amount. The exclusive they are releasing are no longer console sellers like they were when the generation started so focusing on the casuals is the next logical step.

In short no, Microsoft has not lost. They are appealing to a different market which is much larger than the "hardcore" market. I watched the conference with my 11 year old nephew and now he wants me to get Kinect so we can play. He loved it.

I dont entirely agree that they have lost already, Sony could very well do so if they announce the price of the NGP plus the however much a month 3G service will cost. Besides whilst it wasn't jam packed with massive game after massive game Microsofts conference had a nice variety... although I am excited about Halo 4 that was a bit of a let down, when he said a new trilogy I was like :D then when it was Halo 4 i was like :| because I wanted a new game series.

No conference that shows the beginning of a brand new Halo trilogy is a fail. As for the Kinect stuff, the hybrid games like Mass Effect 3 look fantastic. Give voice commands during combat is a perfect fit for Mass Effect. We may have known about Halo HD and Forza 4, but now we got to see them. Forza 4 looks absolutely visually stunning and we all know that the gameplay will be just as good as before.

Like every E3 I expect each camp to claim the other failed, and in their mind they believe it truthfully. But Xbox 360's future is bright and so are Nintendo and Sony's.
