Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Nintendo introduce trophies/achievments like system?

I don't understand the concept of achievements or trophies. Can someone enlighten me? I just think that they are pointless. Are they beneficial to games and your gameplay? And do the trophies/achievements themselves unlock special things in the games, or is it vice-versa?

Reason I'm asking is because my friends (and you forum users) talk about them all the time, and I don't understand what's so good about them other than having them as bragging rights. My ex doesn't even understand what trophies are used for, and she's had a PS3 for 2 years already...

They basically serve no point.  They get people that are addicted to collecting them to buy/rent/play terrible games just to improve their trophy count.  They get people to play games that they already beat and make them do boring things in the game they normally wouldn't do (things that don't progress the gameplay).  Basically it is like crack to some video gamers and they need their shitty fix.

I agree, but you have to give the customers what they want, even if it isn't just for you.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I would rather that developers would focus more on unlockables than on achievements.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
Switch - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
Switch - Bastion (2011/2018)
3DS - Star Fox 64 3D (2011)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Wii U - Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (2010/2017)
Mobile - The Simpson's Tapped Out and Yugioh Duel Links
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

I'd rather they didn't... it's more of a hassle to me. It bothers me when I don't have all the trophies to a game so I HAVE to keep playing it even if I don't want to.
But I guess that's exactly what they want... :/

I would, however, be open to the idea if you could disable them or something...

I prefer the type of achievement for walking into wall 100 times.

Didn't Iwata or Shiggy say sometime before they thought it was a silly idea?

I wouldn't mind having them, though. Addicting shit is addicting.
