Forums - Gaming Discussion - Project Cafe: will be the PS2 of its generation!

So the point of your thread is to tell us that the console we take a generational leap ahead of the Wii like Nintendo's been saying this whole time?

In sales I just don't see that happening. As others have said all of the big 3 see great success now and they've each grown a large fan base. Also 3rd party developers are more open to multi-plat development than ever before so no one company is going to secure a landslide more exclusives than the other systems like the PS2 did. Basically we'll probably never see a single platform dominate like that ever again.

I also don't see the hardware being that much more powerful than the PS3 and 360 simply due to cost. Its still exspensive to build a PS3 and if it get too much more powerful we'll be looking at another $500 console launch which will be suicide for Nintendo.

All that being said I expect Project Cafe will be a huge success and an awesome system, just no where near as dominant as PS2 was in its day.

Eh, it's way to early to say.

I should let you all know, I know someone who is high up at Activision and he says that the controller will cost up to $100, and the console is likely going to be another Gamecube-like effort from Nintendo.

If the controller truly does have a touch screen then the price is actually understandible. A gamecube like effort, I would like that as motion control is kind of lame as you can't just sit back and relax as you play a game like zelda or COD

Edit: Though not perfectly expressed, I see the point (and agree with it now)

The quote in the OP is addressing people, real or imagined, that are saying that Cafe is releasing too early, and that, like the Dreamcast, it will look like a half generation jump. The quote in the OP is saying that Cafe's power will put it in a position more like the PS2, where it was less powerful than it's competition, but not by too significant amount.

I think those who disagree with the statement are reading too much into it.

As far as complete domination of the next gen, I'd have to agree with those saying it won't achieve the PS2's level. But I think the point being made is that it's poised to be a very successful console that will greatly benefit from its launch timing like PS2 did, as opposed to being fatally overshadowed by looming competition like Dreamcast was.

LOL thread title is a bit misleading man :D don't think it was intentional tho

we will soon know I suppose..but honestly the rumors this time around sound very similar to one another..just not too sure about a touchscreen on the controller idea...at least not to this extent (rumor's extent)..let's see if Ninty can surprise

Cafe is not releasing early, but late. The nex gen is actually due for this year, Its actually the ps3/xbox360 thats at risk because their motion controls may not extend the lives of their consoles as they thought.

If Project Cafe does get the 3rd party support the PS2 had I will be running out of money in a few years.
