Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do you Nintendo fans think Link is so powerful?

WRONG, all wrong. Kratos is the leading general in the spartan army. He lives to fight and solves some of the hardest puzzles in all of greece. And his hermes boots make him fast as hell. Have you even played a GOW game? Thats right, he beat the god of speed, hermes. He litterally grabbed him and cut his boots off of his legs. Never seen Link do that.

God of War starts with a flashback showing that Kratos and his army lost the battle against whoever they were fighting. The only chance Kratos saw to save his life was to beg the gods for help. This showed that Kratos is weak on several levels.

That's why I don't understand how people can like Kratos as a character. He is a loser and the only way he managed to succeed was by playing foul.

He WAS a loser. But then became a winner. Plus i don;t really like kratos AND

Spoilers****

And i am pretty sure it was planned by Zues so that he would become a slave to the gods. So that point is invalid because it wasn't his fought.

Thats the point, the characters are as strong as the creator makes them to be. Which is why kratos would beat link in a fight, and is why Goku would kill everyone. And Cole is still more popular then all those characters going by sales.

Wait, how is Cole more popular going by sales? Metroid, Kirby and Fire Emblem have been around much longer and have sold much more units. Unless I misunderstood something here

This generation infamous has sold more than those games individually. Either way if someone made a thread about kirby vs kratos....well lets just say it would be funny lol.

Aren't we looking at the characters though and not their individual games?

There is no way to prove that any of these characters are more popular than the other because its acutally pretty close. Fire emblem is unheard of, Metroid Prime is pretty unheard of this gen, maybe kirby because he had his own tv show.

If there is no way to prove it why did you say Cole was more popular in the first place? Judging by the sales of the characters in question (which you previously stated) he's not. Also, Fire Emblem and Metroid Prime are not characters, they are series. We are looking at the popularity of the characters, it's not between Cole, Metroid Prime and Fire Emblem. It would be Cole, Samus, Roy, and Kirby. Out of these I would say Cole and Roy are the least popular and Samus and Kirby are more popular. Samus and Kirby have been in much more games which have sold much more units so the characters are more popular/well-known/established. It's hard for me to see how their popularity vs Cole's is in question.

Im comparing the games not the characters. And i specifically said, that infamous is more popular according to sales this gen. And that is true. If we are talking characters im not to sure that samus beats cole out anymore. Kirby probably, no one knows who roy is or ike is really. Eiterh way who cares were talking about fights, and those characters wouldn't matter anyways becasue kratos would kill all of them lol

"And Cole is still more popular then all those characters going by sales." This sounds like a comparison between the characters, not the games. It makes no sense to rule out games from last gen and limit it to sales of individual games from this gen. And why would Samus no longer beat out Cole? Was Samus suddenly forgotten by all her fans over the years? Like I said, i'm not sure how you can take characters that have been around for generations and compare their popularity with a new character from this gen.

Like i said there is no real way to tell. I was just going by sales this gen. Samus has really fallen off. While infamous 2 will go on to sell 3 million units. But like i said it doesnt matter =p

Since you're judging popularity by the sales of the games the character is in this generation, let's really have a look at that, shall we?

Cole:
Infamous - 1.95 million
Total - 1.95 million

Samus:
Metroid Prime 3 - 1.59 million
Metroid: Other M - 0.82 million
Metroid prime Trilogy - 0.62 million
Total - 3.03 million

And if we want to include ALL games they've appeared in this generation, we have to toss in Super Smash Brothers Brawl at 10.35 million.

Even by your own metric Samus is more popular this generation.

He never became a winner. It was solely his fault that his family was killed, but instead of admitting that he settled out to take revenge on the gods.

Just for a moment, think about movies that are dealing with war and their heroes. Are there any where the hero begs a greater might for help when everything is going against him? No, he keeps up the fight until the bitter end and dies for his cause.

Kratos doesn't do that. Instead he takes the role of the person you would want to see dead above everyone else in the story that is being told.

The gods did alot more than just kill his family. He only had beef with Ares in the first game. Did you play part II or III?

No, I didn't play the latter two games.

It was Kratos who killed his family. You can argue that he was a marionette of Ares when he did it, but that was part of the deal between Kratos and Ares. That he would be his slave in exchange for winning the battle he was losing for him. If Kratos hadn't been so weak, it would never have happened.

Kratos was never weak, Zues was controlling his life from the get go. And they did way more than just kill his family. Thats why he wanted to just kill all of them in the third game to be free from it all and finally take his revenge. How can you even call kratos weak when you haven't beaten the trilogy? You don't even know how it turns out or if kratos changes for the better. Unless you spoiled it for yourself, which would be ridiculous lol

hate to break it to you guys but I'm pretty sure when every character being compared at the moment has died, they simply go back in time to the last checkpoint and revive with the exception of kirby who after kirby's epic yarn no longer can die. Thus none of them will ever win a fight because as soon as they die of exhaustion pounding on kirby for centuries, they just go back in time to the beggining of the fight and kirby yet again can chuckle at their pathetic attempts to kill him.

Not that I care much for Link, but brute power is really not how you should compare the ability of two characters from entirely different universes. Why? Because I can pretty much make up a character called Immortal who is immortal, has all the abilities in the world and cannot in any way or form be negatively affected by anything. There, I win against whatever character you throw at me. So, just by terrible writing, I can win a stupid contest like this.

“These are my principles; if you don’t like them, I have others.” – Groucho Marx

What is this BS?

And what's with the Infamous avatar guy? Hardly anyone talks about Infamous (Cole or whatever his name is =p)  and Kratos is a shitty ass character. There are better Non-Nintendo characters to compare link to.

Also, are you people doing these comparisons for fun? Because some people seem to be getting pretty serious in here...

*Cough* radiantshadow92 especially *Cough*

Metroid games are probably sold to the same people. With that taken into the account and that smash probably wasn't sold on samus as a character but rather the idea of smash brothers, cole is more popular this day and age. It's not something that matters, but while reading this thread I was waiting for someone to point out, that just because a character was popular 20 years ago, does not mean the character is popular today. It's like saying that because crash bandicoot was awesome the new crash is also awesome today.

But isnt kirby the better sellng this gen as both of his ds games sold 2 million plus?
