Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do you Nintendo fans think Link is so powerful?

oniyide said:

some of you guys are letting this get under your skin and thats sad, to the OP go play GC version of SC2 if that doesnt make you a believer then nothing will, it made me one. Hell Link>Kratos, just because he was more useful in SC than Kratos was, and this is from a Sony fan

Honestly i just dislike the enemies link faces in general. They look and fight retarded.

He's powerful because he embodies the spirit of a person without super powers, without God heritage, without genetic mutations, without futuristic weaponry and he still has the bravery, courage and wisdom to save his world from evil.

That, my friend....is power.

Every main character is like that.

So Kratos isn't a demigod?
So Marcus Fenix doesn't use futuristic weaponry?
So Spider-Man isn't a mutation?
So Cole doesn't have super powers?

its not the powers, its like you said its the courage. What does it matter if they have futuristic weapons if the enemy has them too. Its like saying the link has futuristic weapons compared to his enemies.

Completely not what I'm getting at.   Link is humble, he's not arrogant and just as importantly, he's relatable.   Gamers like him because they feel like they can honestly be him...more so than other hero game characters.   And yet still conquer over evil.  That's an endearing trait that not many video game characters can claim.  And it's why when e-peen contests come about sizing up Link to X video game character with Gold-like powers, super human strength, futuristic weaponry, etc...they choose Link.  Because Link they can relate to.  Kratos they cannot.

are u seriously making a thread about this? who cares..we're talking about video game characters here...why do u care who's more powerful than who..it doesn't even matter. like ok so u think kratos is more powerful than link...awesome, what does that prove or justify? they're not real.  just enjoy the games that these characters are in.

"If new things are so great, where have they been the whole time?"

@radiantshadow  outside of Ganondorf i think they are all corny. and maybe Shadow Link

@Viper1 dont see how Link is relatable considering he doesnt even talk, he really doesnt have a true personality.  And people complaning about GOW's story, give me a break. Put the bias away and see that LoZ's "stories" arent exactly Homer either. Its Link saving Hyrule and the princess over and over again and everynow and then they switch it up and he has to wake up a fish, or ride a train or my personal fav stopping the moon from crashing on the land

Actually, that's part of why he's relatable.  You supply the inner monologue and psychologically map facets of yourself onto those facets not crafted by the developers.   Nintendo has stated many times that is why they refuse to give Link a "voice".

Perhaps this doesn't work on everyone.   But for a lot of people it most obviously does.  As can be seen by the results of such character competitions.

The reason why link is so relatable is because he has no personality. When was he ever humble again? I sure as hell don't remember if showing any emotion. I honestly think Nintendo doesn't want to give him a voice because they are scared of what people might think. And who cares who we relate to, its about who would win a fight, it has nothing to do with who is favorited. Atleast Kratos shows emotion mainly anger. Anger of all the shit he has been through. Anger towards the Gods. He has a story, a family, a reason. Link has none of those. He is just a no one. A no one chosen to defeat evil. He has no story, just his adventure.

I just explained this in a post on the other page.

And they aren't afriad of giving a character a voice.  They do it for plenty of their games.  You really think they make decisions like that?  Consider some of their decisions and the reactions they've received.  If that were a major deciding factor in their development process, Wind Waker never would have happened, the console would be called something else besides Wii, and they'd never have released a portable console with 2 screens.

@Viper1 that makes sense, im one of the people who it didnt work on, I kinda wish he had a voice just to know what the acutal character is like, thats just me

@radiantshodow after that whole Samus fiasco, Ninty isnt giving Link a voice anytime soon

Well, that was NOE that gave Samus the voice in Metroid Prime 3 (she had a voice in the PAL regions) and Team Ninja that gave her a voice in Metroid: Other M.  I'd be a little more welcoming of a voice over again if NCL and NOA handled it.

The console making desicions have nothing to do with the development team working on Zelda. Zelda is made by a team that works on hard and every desicion they make affects what people think of link. Thats why he has no emotion. They don't want Link to be pinned as 'a type of person'. He is emotionless. Just a empty hero just like in fallout new vegas *only the guy in fallout new vegas has a backstory*. I get that you like that sort of hero and that it makes it seem like he can be whatever you want, but that has NOTHING to do with him fighting kratos or anyone for that sort. And the reason why we always compare to Link is because thats all Nintnedo has. What else are we going to compare to? Mario? I don't think so lol.
