Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Console Wars - What about backwards compatibility?

I read about how the Cafe is going to be more powerful than X360 and PS3 some people say that the graphics will only be able to go so far, but what a lot of people are forgetting is that gamers love backwards compatibility in their consoles. From what I have seen Nintendo is the only company that has successfully pulled this off. Yes, some games worked on the 360 but not all of them. The PS3 was suppose to have it, but Sony deemed it to expensive to keep in the console.

Nintendo is the only company that has done this without an issue. Gamers like to sit down and play their older library every once in a while. Think back to the PS2 time era. I got one just so I could play the newer games for the system and still be able to play my PS1 RPG games that I love.

eh, BC is a nice feature but us forum dwellers put too much emphsis on it. really only matters in the first few months when the software is slim pickings.

although, if the rumors are right about hardward BC (wiimote, balance board) that is a much better deal imo.

One thing that I think is pretty neat about Project Café, it seems to be backwards compatible with Gamecube and Wii titles.  I don't remember a machine able to play 3 formats since the GBA.

Who knows? Maybe Nintendo 7 will play Café, Wii and Gamecube games.

Pixel Art can be fun.

*looks at DSi*

yeah, Ninty always has b/c >_>

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

I dont think that is true, i still play a lot of my older GC games on my Wii, they are still fun and it is nice to not have to go into the garage, grab the old Game Cube and hook it up just to play for a few hours.

exactly, nice but not game changing.  i won't argue against it being nice but it won't effect sales in any significant way.

That's still technically only 2 generations.  Gameboy Color is still considered part of the Gameboy generation.  Think of it like a DSi.

If Nintendo does include Wii and GC B/C, it will be the fiorst console to ever have such a feature.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Right! BC doesn't effect sales really?

You have to be retarded to believe that. In this day in age of trading in consoles. If you have a new system that can play your old games or allows you to transfer software to it. You more likely to trade it in, and trade up to the newer system. Watch how much the 3DS sales go up just when the E shop update happens. Once gamers can transfer their DSiware over to the 3DS, it already plays your old games better, and offer something new. It renders the older console worthless. Sony's main problem was the price of the console The feature still didn't make up for the 600 new dollars you had to spend. Then slowly but surely it went from playing .games to emulating games to nothing at all.

If Project Cafe is fully backwards compatible from games to controllers. As long as they advertise the feature to the masses that alone will be a reason to jump on board. Buy a new console with HD graphics, new games, new features, and still use all your Wiimote, boards, wheel, and Wii/GC games.

It is a nice feature if you bought a console that has hardly any great games (at the moment) but I only played a few Xbox games on my X360.  no Gc game on my wii or PS one-PS2 game on my PS3..

I still use my DS lite to play GBA games, and a week ago I bought Metroid Zero Mission. I used my wii to play gamecube games that i didn't have before I had my wii, but now there isn't really any more GC games that I want.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
