Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I hope Nintendo published games never have DLC

I am just fine with free DLC.  Bring it on.  But, I have never paid for any DLC.  I will continue to not pay for any for the foreseeable future.

Wow, who would have thought that you don't have to pay for it lol

Good DLC vs Bad DLC. Bad DLC is Oblivion Horse Armor, or pretty much anything in Soul Calibur IV. Picross 3D did good DLC, and Dead or Alive Dimensions is doing good DLC.

I could go for free bonus costumes in Smash Bros (like what DoA: Dimensions is doing), totally. Just no level packs or crap that should have been in the game to begin with

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I am one of the biggest haters of charging for DLC there is.  Most of the times everything DLC has could have been included in the original game.  DLC is just a way for developers/publishers to earn more money by leaving things out of games.  I know some of you out there enjoy DLC but to me it is a scam (especially when companies start talking about DLC before the actual game is even released).  By paying for DLC you are supporting the idea that video game companies can just release unfinished versions of their game.  While some DLC can be justified by content and price, most offer little value for their price.

Nintendo has been the saving grace of the video game industry in the recent generation.  At least I know I can buy a Nintendo game and not worry about having this character or that character left out just to be included in a DLC later.  How would you like to buy Mario Kart and then only have 10 characters available.  Instead of unlocking new characters by actually playing the game you have to buy each character for 3 dollars each.  This is what the game industry has turned into in my eyes.  Screw DLC and the "elite" paid services for CoD.

Nintendo should focus on including level editors in their games.  They included one for Brawl (while it might not have been a game changer it was a nice feature).  I am sure a few people made Brawl stages just as good or better than ones provided by Nintendo.  A level editor for NSMB or Kart would be amazing.  Nintendo should let the users create new content for their games for free.  Level editors were pretty much the first DLC and they were free.

I agree with you on some points, but maybe not on others. But anyway, I suppose all your hope is lost, because today, during the Nintendo E3 show, the CEO of Electronic Arts (I think that's who said it) said that Downloadable Content will be available on the Wii U.

I somewhat support it, because it's possible that ideas are imagined after a game is released, and so they go and make the DLC, instead of planning it in advance.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

@mysticwolf, I suppose I changed my views a little during the thread. If Nintendo had free DLC available for games I wouldn't mind at all. I would be very disappointed if they started doing terrible DLC (like charging for extra characters in game when they could have included them in the first place). It is a given that third parties will milk the DLC but I want Nintendo to stay away from the paid DLC that barely provides anything.

DLC's are awesome and I'm gladly supporting it.

And I love the myth that developers took out so much content to sell it later as DLC. You're just getting it all wrong with your conspiracy theories. In reality you would get the full Mario Kart roster plus 10 extra characters (DLC).

And even if Capcom already has extra outfits on the disc that need to be payed for. What gives you the idea that Capcom would have included them on the disc if there was no possibility for DLCs (also known as the previous generations) ? They would have never created them in the first place.

This, spot on. Usually with no proof either.

I sort of have mixed views on it. On one hand, if somebody really enjoys a game, and they want some more content, purchase a DLC pack for it, and you will likely receive just that.

On the other hand, PLEASE developers, don't completely take away content from the original game and immediately release it as DLC.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Diablo 2, LOD was the best expansion that I have ever bought. None so far come close to the content it packs in. It was dirt cheap as well, even when it was released.

Yea, that was kind of my point in the thread too.  To point out that what developers used to offer with expansions doesn't really match what DLC offers for price/value.  Expansions usually added way more than what most DLC adds (more value for the money).  Sure there are DLC that add entire new chapters but they don't usually offer new weapons, new characters, etc.  They split everything up to make more money.  They have the new chapter as one DLC, the characters as another DLC, etc....  Expansions offered more bang for the buck.

How would you like if Blizzard offered a DLC for new characters (each character it's own DLC to maximize profit)  in Diablo 3.  Another DLC for a new chapter.  Another DLC for more weapons.  etc...  Instead of all being in one expansion for 30-40 dollars.  They split it up so then if you wanted it all it would probably cost you 50-60.

Exactly. I hate the idea of payed DLC. The Patches on Diablo 2 alone are worth more than most Payed DLC BS. I don't mind DLC, but I would like free DLC... Sadly some people decide to buy this DLC crap for over priced prices, for fuckin Costumes?! Seriously I wouldnt buy Costumes after playing with hundreds of skins for example in Unreal TOurnament for FREE.
