Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Vgchartz ranking game -- Super Mario Galaxy 2!

Update: I have decided to give 800 MS points or a $10 PSN card (sorry Wii only users, I don't know how to get you guys anything) every 3 months to the person who I feel has consistantly had the best reviews in my threads. Hopefully this will inspire even more great reviews in these threads. Your reviews start to count on April 29th 2011 so the person with the best reviews will win at the end of July.

All you have to do is put what score you think the game below deserves, and write a brief explanation as to why it deserves that score.

Voting is open for 3 days, after the 3 day period I will count up all the scores and get the average of the game.  I will be putting up a new thread with a new game every 3 days

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules

1. You had to have played at least enough of the game to form an honest opinion about it

(playing it for 5 minutes is NOT enough time, nor is watching a friend play the game)

2. If you score a game 5 or under, you have to go into great detail as to why you gave it such a low score.

3. A game must have at least 15 people that gave it a score to be counted.

4. If you score a game more than once none of your scores will count

5. Users with less than 50 posts cannot score a game.

I never finished the game after ten hours I didn't feel like playing it anymore the magic was lost;...not that it is a bad game well it is hard to explain..

It is the same problem I have with Brawl...   I played Melee for hundred of hours, I was totally in love with it...and when they announced Brawl I couldn't wait but when I finally got Brawl....the magic was lost....I played it less than  20 hours.....  Kind of sad when you look forward to an sequel of a game you love so much and just don't enjoy the sequel..

I give it a 9 but for my part it is okay if you don't include it in the list of scores when you are going to make an average considering I didn't finished it..

9.5 It didn't quite catch the awe-inspiring glory that the original did, but that shouldn't diminish from how truly excellent this game was. It was sent from Platforming Heaven by some sort of benevolent angel much as Galaxy 1 was

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Magnificent.

It managed to take the seemingly perfect formula to Galaxy 1, expand it, slap in Yoshi, and make what I thought to be an annoyingly similar game to the first one feel refreshing.

The game boiled down to simple fun, just like the first one, even if it lacked an initial wow-factor.

Deserves like a 9.5, or so.

It's not perfect, as I still had some minor gripes, like besides the new levels/power-ups/yoshi it was basically Galaxy 1. Yeah, yeah, star festival whatever. Meh.

(Spoiler?) The Bowser boss battles were really boring and anticlimatic for me. I wanted a bit more of a challenge with them.

I felt the battles were tougher this time than last time. The extra phase of the very final battle was easier than it should have been, but the main phases were tougher than the one phase that dominated all Galaxy 1 fights

First of all, happy 1st anniversary to ya Super Mario Galaxy 2!

Secondly, Super Mario Galaxy is my second favorite game of all time, only behind Sonic and Knuckles. How is it that this game could make me smile any more than the first Galaxy? I don't know how this game managed to do this, or how it managed to provide so many more wonderful pieces of gameplay bliss. But here we are at number 2 with Super Mario Galaxy 2... a game that provides just as much (and even more) heartfelt gaming magic than its predecessor.

I mean... the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard, the colors, characters, and worlds provide some amazing playgrounds for Mario to play in, Yoshi delivers some fantastic gameplay additions, and this sequel continues what I love about this genre. It's so diverse and so surprising at every turn. One moment your riding down a looping slide and the next your handing from a bird, gliding above a jungle. This game defies a box that gamers love to put games in, and because of that its a game that always surprises and never dulls.

What is gaming? What defines a video game? Why is this branch entertainment so special? What makes our hobby so unique compared to others? If you want those questions answered, I think sitting down and playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 is something that provides those answers, and with style.

Pros:

  • Goregeous visuals that aren't just great for the Wii, but are a fantastic visual representation of the video game medium.
  • In my opinion, Super Mario Galaxy 2 has the best soundtrack I've heard in gaming. Simply incredible stuff.
  • Gameplay is pitch perfect. Wonderful, simply wonderful.
  • The level design, while in 3D, is streamlined to make the most of the designers ideas. It's 2D level design mentality in a 3D world. It doesn't get better than this.
  • What else is there to say? Graphics are amazing, the music is jaw dropping, the gameplay and level design are simply incredible. This game is the complete package. *Swoon*

Cons:

  • Lubba is a bit talkative.

Score: 10/10 (And believe me, I wouldn't give a perfect score to any game... this is a huge game in my 22 gaming career.)

Hrm, the normal phases were a bit more challenging, but I felt like I got the hang of them way quicker than the first time around in Galaxy 1.

Maybe I just got better, I dunno. >.0

I completely agree with the extra phase, though. They could've done lots more with it.

Nah, I just wrote a medium sized one to make him nervous.

But I digress, I wrote the number of words necessary to express my love for the game.

This game might not have given me the wow feeling of the first but it improves on it in every way.

The game is harder, there is more variety, hardly any repetition and lots of levels. I have still not unlocked the later levels which you need over 80 stars to unlock.

My only complaint is that even though the game is longer than the first one it felt like I played through it fast :(

You know when something is good it ends fast, like when you have fun time flies by fast. That’s the feeling I had with this game.

I give this game a 10/10 I just love everything about it!
