Forums - Sony Discussion - Hacking Group: "It's the beginning of the end for Sony"

for the most part i have said that this whole issue of property boils down to this : yes you can take your console and modify it as you like but when you reach the point where your modding affects other people and their property then you've crossed a line

like for example if i had a car i could strap a sword to it but it must remain within my personal space so that others aren't affect... however if i disregard others and drive that car out in public then im posing a threat to them and their property which is unacceptable

i believe the same should apply to console modding if you mod a console your mods shouldn't affect others but thats exactly what happened with geohot who posted those keys ( but according to him whose words we should trust because apparently hes a saint he did not partake in any malicious actvities ) and suddenly hacking shyrockets to a point where its difficult to play some games and there are more reports of piracy

And as this argument has gone every time someone has used it. It boils down to two points basically.

1. You can mod your car every way you want. You just can't go on the public roads[PSN]

2. You are legally allowed to go on the internet and tell people how you did it. You aren't responsible for what other people do...

the root keys were released in the time period of late last year to early this year and yes afterwards the issues with CoD ( which never happened on that scale ever before ) happened

So, wait was there cheating on CoD before the masterkey incident or not?

i didn't personally experience it before the keys were released but yes i would think there was probably hacking on all games but not to that extent, for example i met i guy who could place himself in walss in uncharted 2 before the keys were released but that was one single isolated occasion

Admit it. Most of you who are happy that Sony are being hacked and encourage this behaviour, defending the hackers are just fanboys of your respective consoles (Xbox/Wii)

I just look at the profile of these Sony bashers and they are the Wii/Xbox people. What if your precious console gets hacked instead? You'll still encourage these hackers?

I am neither an xbox or a wii person. I am however anti root-kit person, and really anti anything that fucks with my consumer rights. Sony just has happened to excel at that.

Are there root kits on the PS3?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal

And this relates to the PS3 how...?  Besides, I'm pro-competition and anti-monopolistic.  Wasn't Microsoft found guilty of being monopolistic by the Department of Justice.  Oh, they were:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft

So if we believe in competition, why are we supporting Microsoft?  But realistically, I don't use petty excuses to bash a company.  But being consistent with your own stance, you really shouldn't support Microsoft unless you're pro-monopolistic.  Or even Nintendo for that matter.  Former Nintendo head Yamauchi treated 3rd party developers like dirt back during the N64 days.  So why are you here anyway since you don't support Sony , Microsoft, and Nintendo?  They're all bad.

I've been following your posts since you joined this site(mostly because we post in the same threads). You defend Sony quite often.

You bash Sony quite often.

lol, I bash all companies, besides Ninty. The Sony forum is just much more active so it's seen more.

Heck, the first time I had interaction with Thranx he accused me of not owning a 360 and just trolling it xD.

I'm certainly biased, don't get me wrong, I'm not denying that.

he is responsible for what happened regardless of his intentions if the keys weren't distributed it wouldn't have happened... thats like me giving an ak to a maniac and telling him don't kill anybody and he shoots up a school maybe i didn't intend for him to shoot up the school but at the end of the day im indirectly responsible for what happened

btw one thing that no one seems to be talking about is why he distributed the keys in the first place if he truly wanted to stop the piracy and cheating why didn't he just keep releasing the custom firmware? the custom firmware that he said stops piracy

And Microsoft was found guilty in court of being a monopoly who happens to make the Xbox 360.  Is that a reason why we shouldn't buy and enjoy an Xbox 360?
