Forums - Gaming Discussion - E3: Sony 'Leaps And Bounds Ahead' Of Microsoft

Sony is 'leaps and bounds' ahead of Microsoft when it comes to IP, an analyst has told Play ahead of E3

Jesse Divnich, VP capital research and communications at EEDAR, said Sony was ahead of its rival when pushed for a prediction on whether Sony would show new exclusives at E3.

“Sony has the strongest portfolio of properties in the industry,” Divnich stated, beating back the flames of the internet flaring up in anger. “They’re leaps and bounds ahead of Microsoft in the IP department. There’s no doubt Sony will make some type of announcement regarding both new and returning franchises, but which ones I don’t know.”

However, Divnich doesn’t think Sony will win E3. Instead, he thinks Nintendo will emerge triumphant.

“It’s tough to predict E3 winners, especially since we are all in the dark about any announcements,” Divnich confided. “But if I had to predict one winner, I’d go with Nintendo. They have an impeccable E3 track record. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped a Mushroom Kingdom-sized announcement on us.”

Nintendo has had an impeccable E3 track record, if you scrub the E3 2008 Wii Music calamity from the records, but will they emerge the winner? Only two more weeks until we find out…

If nintendo unveils a new smash bros. to come at launch of their new console, then yes, they win in my book.

No shit. In my eyes, they are leaps and bounds ahead of Nintendo as well.

I don't think anyone would argue this point that Sony is leaps and bounds ahead of Microsoft in terms of IPs. That is part of their MO. Microsoft tried a different strategy to circumvent this and it was successful, which was getting all of the third party IPs Sony was most known for and bringing them over. MS doesn't even own many of the IPs they helped popularize this generation, like Gears of War and Mass Effect, and many of the ones they do own in part or in full they don't even do much with. This is as close to a fact as anything opinion based can be.

My response: duh!

Sony lost so many exclusive third party support, they had no choice and can't compete with MS with money . They had to focus on their own franchises, but learn ways to make them big.

Nintendo has a new console, it's their E3 to lose.

Just curious but why? Nintendo in my eyes has the IP department on lock. I'd say they have an entire 2-3 tiers of IPs with more selling potential than anything Sony is able to produce. Anything we can really judge IP success by is something Nintendo crushes Sony at overall.

Because in "his eyes" SONY's IP's are probably of a better quality.

Sales? It's very likely that they'll outdo Sony indeed (99% chance!). I just don't like the fact that they barely make any worthy new IP's, and the ones that they do have are redone to all hell, time and time again (with nice breathes of air, like Wind Waker, SMG, and DKC Returns, some others). Make something new, guys. The genre diversity is also not as big as Sony's.
