Forums - Gaming Discussion - Cod bashing, justifiable reasons

Due to Halo becoming a killer app that sold the XBox platform, it ended up, along with Call of Duty, putting FPS on consoles as a major genre that people by consoles for.  Just like Gran Turismo did for console driving sims, Halo did for FPS on consoles.  Because of this, it deserves the praise it gets.  And considering the state it is in now, with myself not really seeing ANY Halo fanboys about these days on forums, I am hard pressed to say it is overratede.  Overrated by whom?  Killzone gets more cheerleaders on here than Halo, and I wouldn't call Killzone overrated now.  Also both Halo and Killzone both got beverages, so the ONE thing Halo had in terms of overrated factor is now gone: getting a beverage for itself.

Only on here is Killzone loved, for some reason this forum has a higher percentage of sony fanboys than any other forum I'm on.  Any other gaming place I go, both in person or online, is just "halo, call of duty, halo, call of duty, halo vs call of duty, oh, and gears of war."  Killzone, Resistance, Left 4 Dead, and any other multiplatform or exclusive games get almost no recognition.  Any assertion that you like Killzone makes you a "PS3 Fanboy", and are instantly laughed at for it.

Personally, I think Bulletstorm is more fun than any Halo, Call of Duty, Killzone, Resistance, or Gears of War game.  maybe not as objectively good, but leaps and bounds ahead in the fun department.  I think Duke Nukem will be next in line for my "fun, lighthearted FPS game".

So...liking Killzone instantly equals me being a Sony fanboy?

I hate Cod, and it truly deserves bashing. It's just horrible, I mean, look at it:

What did they do to bother you?  If any cod are harmed in this thread, it will be time to send in ROBOCOD to save the day!

I lol'd. It's so bad it's hilarious.

Whats wrong with being a Sony fanboy? You like Sony and you like the games that they produce, no shame in admitting what you like, as long as you aren't bashing others for no reason who aren't Sony.

I hate COD games, but I think the best FPS out there don't follow their formula.

I know I will be alone in this, but my favourite FPS is by far Metro 2033.  It's one long single player campaign with lots of atmosphere and a very good story.  I also enjoyed Crysis 2 very much.

Metro 2033 kicks ass.

So what you're saying is that now Call of Duty is more popular than Halo, Call of Duty is the one which ruins FPS gaming and NOT Halo?

Tease.

then you should really check out the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series.

i would like to point out that i was intending on mainly focusing on Single player. me myself enjoy the single player FPS, and unluckly this being my first gen owning my own console and buying the games i want i have been greatly dissapointed in the FPS genre when it comes to single player FPS. So much that after playing Killzone 3 sp and unable to finish i am now getting into RPG and also going back to play better games, currently playing Deus Ex, and that game is challenging, fun and requires tactics and skills i have not seen in an shooter and it came out 11 years ago.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Yeah, when it comes to the single player in FPS's, what has annoyed me most, and it's probably due to CoD and it's huge sales, is the horrendous scripting of the game. The story has turned into one loong, narrow corridor, where you will end up doing the exact same thing everytime. Every person will have the same experience. And that sucks. It's what annoyed me the most when I played Bad company 2, since Bad company 1's story was rather open ended at times, which I really liked.
