I know it's hard to imagine Video Games being as popular (or more) as other forms of entertainment like Movies and Music but it's possible; just not likely to happen with the current crop of video game companies.
Anyways, try to imagine that all of the external factors helping the game industry for the previous generations being removed. Think about the population decline happening in Japan and European countries, the economic recession happening in the U.S. as well as Japan and some other nations, the decreasing options of territories to expand to. Without true expansion (eg. increased interest) these trends could wreak havoc on the industry.
