@thranx yes, like the bank accounts that PSN never asked you for and your address can be obtain freely on any courts casesearch websites............. as far as CC info you're good for upto 1mil. Dont you read? Checked like a school boy

Erm, yes, PSN does ask you for credit card/debt card info so you can, well, you know, buy stuff. add to that, your address, all filed in one conveniant little package, and an identity thief can make out like a bandit, at your expense. And really, it doesn't matter if the address can be freely obtained on court case search website, unless a person is specifically looking for your address, they won't go there, and I hate to break it to you, but Identity thieves are not specific in their searching of addresses. They will take what they can easily get, in this case, possible milions of addresses along with other personal info, may have been taken.

As far as credit card info, who cares, Sony was still negligent in their security measures, and really, they are just covering their asses with the identity theft insurance. A $150 per-year policy for "x" number of years is far cheaper than having to deal with inevitable class action lawsuits, as well as individual ones served by anybody who actually does become a victim of identity theft due to this PSN fiasco. So to coin your phrase. "Checked like a school boy." ; )

You mean the bank account numbers from several european countries that were stolen? I think it was 10,000 bank accounts or something. Maybe you should read up, there is plenty of info in all of these threads and news on this site alone. You may want to put your head in the sand about all of this, but for those in the real world these are real problems. Getting your identity stolen is not just about the money its about the hassle of fixing your credit. But that is besides the fact, its more about the trust that is lost in Sony in that they can not keep their PSN up to date enough or secure enough to ward off what may have been easy hacks. This is by far the one of the biggest breaches of personal information from a major corporation. But please conitinue to put your head in the sand as a company you appear to like continues to look bad and ruin their credibilty with consumers. Not to mention all I was saying is that you can't really compare a down service (xbox live being down) to a massive theft of personal info and CC/bank data. You know apples and oranges. Maybe you would like to compare how live had its members info stolen and cc info stolen, oh wait it hasn't happened yet.

Yes, 77 million accounts. I can personally attest to the fact that not one, but four fake sets of personal information of my own (as I have two fake addresses in Hong Kong, one in Japan and another in England) were stolen among that 77 million.

You can bet I was quick to let my imaginary friends at those non-addresses know that some random guys on the internet now know where they're hiding.

Anyone care to bet just how many of those 77 million accounts were of the nature of "169 Flibberty Flab Avenue, Tuscon, Arizona" or "999 Main Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong"?

Almost everyone I run into on PSN or in Home seems to have AT LEAST one alt/fake account. Even more than VGC.

Good for you, but that is purely anecdotal, and is utterly meaningless in this debate.

Tony_Stark, just like I said PSN never asked one's banking info..... Routing # and Account numbers.. CC (credit card) which aperently you did not understant what it ment in the previous post. CC means credit card. DC is a debit card never have anything to do with one'a banking information. Now if a bunch of hackers chose to steal information that in turn led to discovering of banking information............thats on them. PSN doesn't ask for Banking Info. Cc and DC thats how you buy stuff, kid.

@Kasz216

were there numerous trolling posts when LIVE went dead for 13 days and then the second time for (i dont remember) days?

not really comparable as most people are more concerned about all the private info that was stolen, the CC number stolen, the bank account numbers stolen. You know the things that affect people in real life.

Though yes... there were.  As opposed to here where there really hasn't been any trolling... outside people bringing up off topic stuff to people reasonably complaining.

It was mostly "This and RROD! No wonder!".  Though I tended to avoid the Microsoft section... since all it basically did was troll microsoft 24/7 anyway until the PS3 caught up in sales numbers.

@rocketpig I don't want to call you a liar but after the update you only had one option: to change your password. You couldn't do anything else untill the password is changed.

I couldn't change my password. Luckily, a friend still owned my original PS3 from 2007 and changed my password on that console because I couldn't do it on mine. Did you read the thread?

I almost changed his password to "retardchunks" and told any PSN friends he had on there that he had slept with their dad and wanted to let them know that a topical cream would take care of the sores but then I would have lost my Portal 2 co-op partner.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Umm, yes debt cards are directly linked to bank accounts. With a name address and debit card number, Identity thieves could concievably gain access to your personal account. But you do realize that bank accounts are just one piece of the identity theft puzzle. They can use your identity to get new credit cards, take out loans in your name, and all other sorts of nasty things that could destroy your credit, and future. I suggest you do a little more research on identity theft before spewing this mis-information on the subject all over the internet. Oh, and next time you decide to call somebody a "kid" (which btw, is flaming, so have a good vacation) make sure you try to use real English and proper grammer.
