A very interesting analysis, nice one.

I think what this goes to show is that a lot of doom theorists probably haven't seen the bigger picture, or looking forward. Who knows how the price cut may work, but it's almost certain that Wii sales will increase. And, as you pointed out, there's a lot of Wii's out there, so that means a lot of SW (I believe that nearly 1.2mil units of SW were sold last week, or around 1 mil without bundling. And that the same as the PS360, but with no major game releases AT ALL in some time...)

More worrying surely should be for the PS360. Sure, they're ahead now, but after a price-cut, they will likely be behind the Wii. And, after releasing Kinect, Slim models, Move, steady stream of compelling SW, loads of advertising etc., and they'll still end up behind a 5 year old console which was outdated at the time, is surely a worrying state of affairs. Just what do they have left to counter the Wii? I bet we'll find out at E3...

Oh, as for the 3DS, looking at how the DS sold in its early life, there's nothing to worry about. It just needs a Brain-Training or something going for it, and the sales will sky-rocket. What that will be, we can only predict now.

This post is just lol, really.

Wii isn't the only one that is going to get a cut you know? Not to mention going by the fact you could easily find a Wii for $169 in America for the last 6 or so months, means its $50 price cut is going to have the weakest effect from all 3.

It's not a worrying state of affairs when the market leader (should it) take back 1st place in weekly sales ... it's expected ...

Show off more games.  And show a preview video for Dragon Quest X at E3.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Yeah, it ain't gonna happen.  But considering how close Nintendo has been with the DQ series lately, they should.  And frankly, DQX is the biggest upcoming release on Wii.  It would go a long way to hyping it if they showed it at E3 instead of waiting for TGS or some obscure self-launch trailer.

I agree with that it should happen, but we know it won't. Better wait for TGS anyways since the game is still far away, probably 1 year away or so.

Well, Yuji Horii has said they're nearing the end of completing the game.  But considering Dragon Quest, that could be over another year of game testing, altering the game engine and polishing the design before we see it.  But SquareEnix execs did say they're looking to have it out before Summer 2012.  Let's hope they do.  And even more important, hope it comes out in America/Europe before 2013.

Seriously, theres nothing to save.  we just had a 50 dollar price cut, wait for it to take affect.  Oh and BS Sony/Microsoft could do the same....  They are barely just turning a profit now on their systems.  Nintendo could do another 50$ price cut and still be profitable.  Not to mention their god like software sales...

Sony/360 owners have been trying to spell Nintendo's doom since it first came out.  It's not in any real hot water it just has a blank in software releases.

Same with the 3DS, its not doing that badly, 2 months have gone by and it has an installed base of 3 million users.  It just has some dry spots in software.  Handhelds get more titles anyway and they are cheaper to develop for, so they should get lots of experimental original IPs.

Nintendo's a smart company overall.  They seem to get better every generation at what they do.  They did for the PSX generation too, but Nintendo had a really bad year back then....

They said they wanted to outsource their network component, I am hoping they outsource to Valve.  Imagine steam as the backbone of Nintendos new network.  They would instantly jump ahead of Microsoft that way.

Since about 2001 actually, before the GameCube even came out.

Also I agree.  All these people who are spouting gloom and doom for the 3DS and Wii are either classic trolls or haven't been playing games for more than 4 years.

The PS2 went through multiple 'downswings' where people were claiming gloom and doom for the system.  It even got to a point where there was hundreds of PS2s left in stores because supply had greatly exceeded demand.  But a couple price drops and some major game releases later (FFX, GTA:Vice City, God of War, etc) and the PS2 was right back on top.  And as for the DS, I can't believe I have to keep saying this.  The original DS had one of the worst launches for a console ever and sold pretty slowly for almost a year.  But as soon as some major games like Brain Age and Pokemon came out, the system sold like candy.  The same will happen with the 3DS.

And the 3DS even is trying to appeal to the 'core' market which makes all this anti-Nintendo hate even more stupid.  They hate Nintendo when it focuses on casuals.  They hate Nintendo when it focuses on hardcore gamers.  People just want to jump on the bandwagon, eventhough its 10 years late.

I think it is more about prolonging it's life with cheap games like Wii Play motion plus and price drops at this point. I don't think it will be able to compete with the HD systems weekly at this point except for the holidays when it always does well.
