  • Lack of direction: There were times when I asked myself, "why am I going into these worlds?" "What's my motivation? Why am I doing this?" I got bored of the game because the game lacked focus and two of the five worlds bored me.

You're motivation is pretty obvious from that blue guy hanging around the nexus, you are trapped there, all you can do is go to the worlds that or sit in the nexus with him, the monumental set it up so you couldn't escape you had to go to the worlds, and if you just sit in the nexus you will eventually lose yourself like he did

Most players do not pay attention in the dialogues of NPCs and facts trhough weapons in the game so just go without knowing the story of Demon's Souls.

That's sad because the story of Boletaria is so good.

Not every game needs the regular story telling .

The game treats you like a knight , don't lose focus, never let you guard down , choose the right time to strike , you can't just pause the game whenever you want , a knight must clear the field before having some rest ... which is so clever , using small thing like that to push the sense of adventure further .

I could feel the story in the dark atmosphere , the screams of Latria prisoners and many more things , the idea is to keep the player focused and afraid of death ... make a mistake .. suffer the consequences , which lead to a great sense of glory and happiness when you get past all that  ( Oh god I was really happy when I killed that burning , fast , huge , son of bitch called flamelurker .. I owned you bastard XD ) so, the regular story isn't necessary with all that sense of immersion in the game

The controls that are being called Clunky serve that very purpose , it's some kind of heavy , the sense of battle is in them , when you wear a heavy armor the movement becomes hard and irresponsible but you get a great defence . sacrifice it to get fast movement .

The game could use some variety in the combat and magics , there are alot of weapons true , but they have the same style of attacks

 9.5  * phew *

Too many good things to say about this game. Possibly the 2nd best game in this gen so far, after Oblivion.

One of the things that impressed me the most were controls and combat. So heavy, physical and accurate. Spot on perfection.

The atmosphere in Demon's Souls is magical.

9.7

So I've got the average at 8.6 if counting all 23 scores so far.

Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of getting to this game yet and by the time I do, Dark Souls will be out.

Sweet I'll keep this post as a reference.

Also 2 days left to score!

8.6 ?

That's really low for my second best game of this gen ( after Oblivion XD )

Did you know that Gamespot gave it The game of the year award over Uncharted 2 in 2009 .

I hope you do give it a try yo_john117 , It really cheap now for a game got  10 for value on Gamreview

9.0

Pro's
Innovative fun Ideas (the online, invading stuff)
Difficulty, it's not as hard as people make it out to be, but it's no cakewalk either.
The gameplay
Atmosphere, while the music was done well, it's not particularly fun to listen on its own... but it fits the game perfectly.

Cons
Boss fights. I really didn't like them as much, they didn't feel meaty. Like say SoTC or Castlevania. Though this is barely a con.
The story, while sufficient was otherwise bleh.
Overall There were not a lot of cons just almost every category I'd rate a 9/10.

It's probably my 5th or 6th favorite game this gen. I only give scores on a .5 scale.

I actually own the game....but i'm waiting until I beat Uncharted 1 & 2 before I play it.

i haven't posted in any of the other thread but i haave to this time.

demons souls is my most favorite game this gen.  when every other game is doing their best to coddle you demon souls really is a breath of fresh air.

i love the depth in the game.  frankly you can beat the game and really not know shit about it.  from world tendency to personal tendency and the hidden paths and NPC to be discovered you really have to dig in to see it all.

i love that the game  requires strategy.  i disagree with anyone who says the game is "difficult".  it's not.  the game is unforgiving of mistakes, this is true, but the not hard.  you have to learn the enemy types, how to exploit them, and then execute with precision.  in this respect it reminds me of the NES mario games where you spent the time to learn the rhythm of the game before finishing.  its an investment but soo rewarding.

i love the atmosphere of the game.  this is definitely a case of less is more in the story.  you never were weighted down with boring, poorly told cut scenes like in so many games now-a-days.  the cut scenes were few but the ones they did have were just soo damn interesting.  silent, unique, clever, atmospheric.  i loved it soo much.

pushing through to get the plat was just soo much fun.  so rewarding.  so my favorite game this gen.  i really look forward to dark souls and should it ever come, demons souls 2.

10/10

edit: just watched the review fps linked and wanted to add one thing that reminded me of.  constant autosaves.  everything you do is done and done forever.  no level restarts for you.  love it!  life with consequence.
