Sony deserves it.

Sorry for bad English.

I believe in being a devils advocate, and this thread speaks to a narrow frame of mind. Maybe the selling of these consoles has less to do with say the consoles library, or its free service, or someones game addictions, or upcoming games. Maybe just maybe people are upset with the fact that Sony was incompetent, self serving, and shiftless in dealing with the whole aftermath. Not to mention they brought all of this upon themselves and by proxy their customers. Just ignore who is right and who is wrong. Frankly it doesn't really matter. Sony had a glass jaw, and they went out taunting a prize fighter. They made themselves a target.

Look this shouldn't need to be said, but there are probably a lot of people that are very upset with Sony. Upset with what they let happen to their personal information. Not only was it a violation, but people have had to put time into watching, and protecting their name and property. Then you have a service that has been down for weeks. That is not a free service by the way. That service came as part of the console. You paid for that service at the cash register. Some people paid over six hundred dollars for that service. At that price they should reasonably feel they deserved better.

You cannot put a price on self respect and self worth. I am not saying it is fair, right, or rational. However if someone does feel strongly that they were wronged. They not only have the right to turn their back on the company and its product. They kind of have a obligation to do so. Some people are going to be upset about all of this, and they aren't stupid or worthless for standing up for themselves. You should respect people for doing what they feel is right even if you do not agree with them.

Just something to consider. It probably has everything to do with how people feel about the situation, and frankly that should by enough of a reason.

It is a free service, you paid for the hardware not the servers and there are thousands of places people use their name and address it's not a big deal anyone thinking it is one is stupid even if someone had good reason to keep those hidden among 77 million they aren't going to stand out worst case senario is people get sent phising scams... though Sony should have updated before they sued a hacker... but they're taking the hit not me and psn will probably come out better for it so yeah, no biggie

I'd quote Penny Arcade here.

"The thing to say on your web is that since PSN is free you can’t really complain about it, and that’s pretty dumb. Maybe you could have said that if you couldn’t play Ratchet and Clank online with your Playstation 2, but that era is fucking over. By “that era,” I’m referring to the one where chains of appliance “islands” exist in millions of discrete universes across the globe. The store, your friends list, these aren’t perks. By 2011, they’re bedrock assertions of the medium. The deal they made with users - one which, for years, was the justification for a gruesome price disparity - was “free Xbox Live,” not “shit happens.”"

PSN is a for profit business, not a charity. Most of Google's services are 'free' to the end user, but like PSN it is a for profit business, not a charity. If Google lost data on a hundred million users and went down for nearly a month, NOBODY would be cutting them any slack. They would be crucified probably 10x worse that what Sony is experiencing now.

Just because the service is 'free' to the end user does not give it a pass from reliability or security. It's a business and should be judged as a business, not a charity.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I might by that arguement if psn was down forever but it's 3 weeks, this stuff does happen and you can complain all you want but it doesnt change anything it's down for as long as it's down and switching over it being down for 3 weeks is still stupid

Does this stuff happen?

I can think of gaming servers being down for like... a weekend... or people having trouble for like a week because of congestion of trafic.

I can't recall an online service being down... 3 weeks ever though.

I suppose that has to do more with the stupid design of online consoles though.  Hence why PC users get upset when games don't have dedicated servers.

Excess control like this, leads to excess problems.

On PC is "Game X's official servers are down".

People would just play on unofficial servers joining via IP address.

Dedicated services for tons of games have been down this long sure nothing this large scale but there's only two services and they haven't been going long and like you pointed out they've both been down for a few days before, and no1 ever tried to hack live atleast not on the scale that psn was attacked besides I was talking more about stuff happening in life, things happen people screw up or don't do something as well as they should of then you can complain bitch whine demand stuff but in the end nothing changes the person fixes the mistake and makes it up to you, and all that whinning you did just annoyed everyone and made you look foolish

among all this media chaos and blame people forget Sony is dealing with the problem

Which games?   I'm just curious because it's never happened to a game i've played.

Largely because... most games don't require you to go through their special network service to get to it... because there is no reason for this to be needed.

Also... you know... the whining is more or less how said company knows what WILL make it up to you.

Also, that someone is dealing with their own mistake isn't really something to be lauded over... so much as expected.

Also... you know... the whining is more or less how said company knows what WILL make it up to you.

They already stated everything they are doing which frankly is alot more then they need to, MS knowingly released extremely faulty hardware lied about it for like a year, and then just repaired consoles that fell under the most common symptom for 3 years since purchase and thats it and they got away with it

as for games it's mostly stuff no1 ever heard of and won't have a link anywhere so no real point, I don't even remember some of their names
