Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Trades increased by 200% since PSN crash

what i want to know is hard numbers. 200% increase sounds huge but if actual numbersare are  like 10 a week then a 200% increase would be like 30? thats a good way to make things look worse even if it barely even matters.

This.  Just another article to make it seem like the PS3 is worse off than it really is.  And when sales show it's still doing fine, some on here are going to be saddened.  Which in itself is quite sad.  I mean really, Sony may lose a couple thousand die-hard online gamers in a month, but are getting over one hundred thousand new purchasers every week.  No big loss.

Also love people thinking this will destroy Sony's image for years to come.

Well Sony's taking there sweet ass time getting it back up.

The namecalling of people who are trading in their systems because is REALLY immature and does nothing but shows your a bit too attached to your own system.

That said... over 200% accoding to one store.

Which likely means it was the highest number from all the stores they called.

Lol our Power Up Rewards customers already number over 6 million, hardly in any way is that "limited"

Some of you people litteraly know nothing about gaming retail. I mean honestly, only 1,000 PS3 trades before? Lol just Gamestop alone we do FAR higher than that on any consoles. We're talking about well over a million console trade ins a year.

Lol it never fails to amuse me how you have random forum goers arguing with you about this subject...I mean you manage what? 4 gamestops or something like that?

Also I wish I had $200 cause I would totally get a PS3 since its so cheap right now!

You do realized that at least 50% of all PS3 players would be labeled as "casual" by the people on these forums don't you? The fact is that most players on both the PS3 and 360 only purchase 2 - 3 games a year and most of the time its vary large mainstream titles like Madden and Call of Duty. The actual gaming landscape is FAR different than what you see on these boards that's why I can't help but laugh at how rediculous "core" gamers are sometimes in terms of discussing gameing trends.

Look at games like Killzone that get massive internet hype and in comparision to install base sell very low numbers. Why is that? Its because the majority of consumers aren't "core" players they are casuals. They don't get on the internet looking at reviews and trailers on all the "core" games coming out. They want big franchises they are familiar with and their friends play.

More gamers need to actually get a correct perspective on sales and work in retail, because trust me it will shock you how mainstream and casual ALL console demographics are, not just the Wii.

And yes PS3 sales are in the toilet at Gamestop right now, why do you think we are offering $100 off brand new systems to our PowerUp Rewards members? Here's a hint, because they aren't exactly flying off the shelves.

And the worst for Sony is that they can't really shake this bad image. Like the xbox (rrod) and wii (mom's console) once it's set like that in the mind of the mainstream, erasing it is near impossible. Even if Sony pushes a big PR campaign - which they will have to do - this won't go away.

People are herd animals and once the herd is moving in one direction it's hell getting them to go the other way.

This thing could even force a pricecut on the PS3.

Both of these posts are QFT.

I can say personally that the bad rep never dies down. I think its a rule of the internet, if you fuck something up it will never ever be forgotten. I mean my 360 has been nearly 2 years now (this is my first one) and I have had 0 issues with it. But every time I go anywhere online, people are always stating how they were on their 10th 360 before they finally gave up and switched. This makes me think either I am one of the luckiest gamers alive or they are blatantly overexagerating lying, and I am inclined to believe its the latter.

As for the casual demographic, I can vouch for that since a LOT of my friends do not go around checking for reviews or what not. They don't follow any certain publisher or developer, heck I don't even think they know who made COD (or the fact that COD alternates between IW and Treyarch every year), which is what they mainly always play. So yea, the mainstream audience is indeed very different than what some people on these boards tend to perceive.

Well it's the same logic that has some people defending Sony on the premise that they were lying to make themselves look worse for some reason.

lol its kind of funny to me how its mostly the people who dislike sony or own nintendo or microsoft systems who post most in these threads... its even funnier to me how easily they show their excitement over reports like these... but regardless over 200% means more than double which could either be very insignificant ( what im leaning to ) or if the return numbers were substantially high before this trend could grow into a fairly big problem... we'll have to wait and see ho9w this developes... the funny thing is that im fairly sure that the ps3 will lead in sales again this week anyway

Are we reading the same thread?  Basically everyone has a PS3 tag.

wow man you jumped on me fast its just an observation im sure if you go looking at threads similar to this one and its also present in this one too... or maybe im just being paranoid... btw i've seen you in loads of these threads you own a ps3? because you seem to be deeply invested in this issue

That's not saying much. If, for example, there were 1,000 trades before, it's 2,000 now. I would think the number of trades was negligible before, so twice as much as negligible equals... still negligible.

Mathmatically speaking twice negligible could equal incredibly minor
