Sony is doing everything possible and trying very hard to get PSN back on its feet, and company recently via a blog update confirmed that a firmware update for PS3 will released upon PSN's revival, and now it seems that one PS3 owners has already got a firmware update notification while Playstation Network is down.

A user of NeoGAF posted two images (we have it for you below) that shows firmware update notification he recieved while PSN is down.

"DailyVacation", PS3 owner who receive notification, was asked to verify his current firmware version to this he answered:

Still at 3.60. If you select yes, you get the message stating you already have the latest firmware. So it seems they’re activating it for certain locations? I’m gonna put up screenshot in a bit.

I got that on the PS3 saying that a new firmware update was available.

Tease.

My sister got a message a week ago when they setup their new console saying to update, so they did. I found this odd but you never know, servers that contain the updates might be on a seaparate network/system because the the bandwidth and processing needed to download the updates for millions of people.

Hmm, pie.

yes, ps3 updates and game patches have separate servers

so they are still avaiable

Same here.  I borrowed WWE Superstars from a friend at work a couple of weeks ago and before I could play it, I had to stand by while the system updated.  I didn't think anything of it.

I did'nt get anything such as that.

I recently bought RDR and the game updated automatically. I was like WTF?? Then I thought maybe the update was in the disk itself but separate from the game, which would be pretty stupid, but I couldn't find any other explanation.

Now I see it may have really been an online update.
