I don't get most of my games on Day 1(i usually wait till theyre cheaper around $30-40 and get them online ;)) but there are the ones that I can't wait to have and just get them on day 1 or day -1 (you'll soon see what i mean):

PS3:

Uncharted 2: Got it right after i finished taking my SAT's and also it was like 3-4 days before it officially came out lol. To me it stands as one of the greatest games Ive ever played and the multiplayer for me is the best ive ever played (not just because of friends but also pissing people off lol).

Resistance 2: Loved this game and the original. This game was the main reason why i got into multiplayer so much and was also the first FPS game i went online with. Over 100 hrs online and i got the 10,000 kills trophy =) yup many fond memories.

Final Fantasy XIII: Another game i got before the official release date, overall it was a good game but its definately not one of my favorite FF games of all time, not even Top 5.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International: was definately worth it on Day 1 and it shitted all over FFXIII too for me it was the definitive JRPG of 2010.

Killzone 3: pre-ordered off Amazon and got a $20 reward thing for any future purchase. Overall it was fun singleplayer was ok but the real fun for me in it was the multiplayer(playing with friends etc.)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Pre-ordered the limited edition and dam was that game awesome, one of my favorite games this Gen and it not only had a good singleplayer but a great multiplayer too.

Grand Theft Auto 4: Almost regret getting it Day 1, i mean it was fun and all but the story was all it had going for it it didn't have many side things to do like San Andreas and to me it also didnt deserve all the critical acclaim it got and felt more like a step back compared to San Andreas.

Infamous: this was like a sleeper-hit at the time, i remember me and my friends all going to Gamestop to get it just off of the hype sites like IGN and Gamespot were giving it and this was also really the first time i played a superhero game and beating it(i played Spiderman 2 back on the PS2 but never actually got to beating it =(..) Overall though really fun game and great story...just running around and blowing everything up with grenades and using lightning storm was awesome.

Soul Calibur IV: Didn't live up to the hype i had for it and never really drew me in like SC2 and SC3 did.

There's even more games that i could think of on my PS2 and PSP that i got on Day 1 but for now il just keep it PS3.

Civilization V - Good old Civ experience.

Resident Evil 5 - Killing zombies in co-op and splitscreen is fun.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Great story and gameplay.

Borderlands - Fun co-op and splitscreen experience.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - 2009 GOTY.

Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 - 1000 hours spent into multiplayer and special ops.

Final Fantasy XIII - Good game.

Call of Duty : Black Ops - Multiplayer was better in MW2 but zombie mode is great.

Gran Turismo 5 - Best racing game ever made.

Mortal Kombat - Good stuff so far.

I can't remember if I got  Bayonetta, Resident Evil 5, and Grand Theft Auto 4 on day 1 or not.......I could go back and compare my Achievement dates to their release dates but I'm too lazy.

Xbox 360:

Halo 3: Loved it I was playing this game 24/7

Cod 4: Always loved Call of duty Cod 4 is arguably one of the best COD games ever. This was the only game that took me out of Halo 3.

Gears 2:  Amazing game but it got boring fast.

Halo 3 ODST: Horrible.

Modern Warfare 2: Good game bought it due to the mass hype. But it got started losing it's grip on me really fast.

Halo Reach: My favourite Halo game ever. I wouldn't have got the game if Halo 3 wasn't so amazing

PS3:

GTA 4: It's called Grand Theft Auto enough said.

MGS4: The reason why I bought a PS3.

Killzone 2: Bought due to hype great game but like other games lost grip on me fast.

Uncharted 2: Uncharted was amazing. Looking at Uncharted 2's scores really made me intrested.

God of War 3: Well, I'm a MP guy I prefer games having a good multiplayer in order for me to buy. But this game was different. God of War 1 and 2 were one of my favorite games on PS2. I couldn't resist this game. Once I bought it I couldn't stop playing. Still playing this game today. Easily the Best game ever.

Call of Duty Black ops: I always used to by my Cod games on 360. But I just thought that maybe I should give the PS3 version a try instead of the 360 version. I don't regret it.

Gran Turisom 5: Best racing game ever.

Killzone 3: Amazing game big improvement from Killzone 2.

Usualy I don't buy games on release because when I buy a game it's because I have a lot of time to play it right away. 

Last generation I bought on release:

Xbox

Halo 2 - Did the midnight line up and well I could have waited.
Ninja Gaiden - Incredible purchase, well worth it.
Soul Calibur 2 - worth it.
PGR2 - No regret.
RSC2 - Very good rally game.

DC

Soul Calibur - not dissapointed
Sonic Adventure 2 - could have waited
Skies of Arcadia - well worth it.

This year except for Forza 4 and maybe Dance Central 2 I will not buy any game on release.

Of all the ones I've bought the last few years on release day these are the ones that were worth it
