I'll agree that the gameplay is very different, but there is a heavy degree of drama and story-line gaming. I think it will be similar to a GTA type game or RDR, but I think the game is going to focus more on drama and detective work than those kinds of games.
So I think they will sell similarly, because R* tends to sell higher on 360, which is counteracted by more ps3s being sold recently, which makes a higher probability for first game purchase, and the similarity in "interactive drama" with Heavy Rain.

also, the dev said that it is more of a linear game than gta. That kind of stuff factors in. It's an open world, but it's not really like gta. Looking at the gameplay, it looks like a mix of the game CSI/HeavyRain/GTA.
For that reason, I think it is going to have a fairly good first week but probably not as high as say Red dead or GTA. Probably near 1M on each console, with a lifetime of 4-5 times that. And I believe they will be quite even.
I predict that it will sell millons of copies, you heard it hear folks. lol
Week 1 Sales (PS3) --398k

Week 1 (360): 850k
If I recall correctly, preorders are a little higher on 360 version at the moment. I also don't think it will have quite the opening that Red Dead Redemption had, because that was actually the second game in the series, and some people likely recognized the name from the ps2 era.
Lifetime (PS3): 4 million
Lifetime (360): 4.5 million
I really think people are underestimating the potential legs this game can have. Even if it isn't a lot of people's style they like, Rockstar games are pretty widely accepted as being very good and enjoyable games. I also think that overall, the game will continue having better sales on 360, because that just seems to be how rockstar games are.

I would suggest you don't do that, since you will be off by about 4 million between both consoles, muwahahahaha!!!

These number can't be wrong. The purple leprechaun that asked me to burn the local kindergarten last year gave them to me.
