If they did they really didn't look at everything before starting did they? No one had Sony knocking at their door for installing Customer Firmware on their PS3. Mr Hotz did for releasing secure information about the PS3 OS and essentially a 'How To' pirate games (or create Homebrew), he is the only person to be 'sued' by Sony. Sony do own the Operating System on the PS3, not us, that's licenced like all software is.

I also heard Anon were entering because of OtherOS which was removed because people like Mr Hotz were using it to break PS3's security to allow people to play pirated games (or create Homebrew).

Eitherway, Anonymous entered a battle not like their other campaigns. Helping Egyptian and Libyan people communicate, DDoS attacks on people oppressing freedom of speach in the case of WikiLeaks, and most the others were campaigns on the side of 'right', without harming customer's directly (most the websites being DDoS handled it and were back up in a few hours if that). This always seemed more of a case of doing because it harms many of Anonymous themselves and in doing so has harmed everyone who uses a Playstation product and SOE game, blame can be put on them, indirectly or not.

homebrew and creating homebrew applications has nothing to do with Piracy. I can make a "homebrew" application in Windows Visual Basic or a "homebrew" web application like Farmville.

And Sony can keep their XMB OS. I want to install my own. They do not own my PS3 at all.

Whether you like to think they don't have any relation or not, they do sadly when it comes to games consoles. The ability (software required) to create and use homebrew on a game system, which is usually tight locked system, also allows unsavoury people to play and pirate games. If people could create great software and programs for PS3 on their own for their own use then I'm all for that but not at the expense of games companies who rely on sales to keep afloat. But then if you can create homebrew on your PC why do you want to do it on the PS3?

Why don't you install your own? What's stopping you? Mr Hotz did release his version with a guide for a few days before Sony stepped in, you could have claimed it and installed it. Have Sony come to you and physically stopped you from doing it?

I had CFW on my PSP-3000. And have the Droid X software on my Droid 1. For the PS3, I need to keep it clean at least till I get my check from the class-action suit again Sony. I have the software sitting on my PC for my PS3. I'm just waiting to see if anyone figures out how to bypass the whole "cant play newer games without official FW 3.60 or newer" block. No matter what though Im considering trading in my PS3 anyway, I dont use it for anything but Blu-ray movies. Which I can simply get an Oppo Blu-ray player and have a player 1000 times better than the PS3.

I don't care what they did back in the day. It doesn't change what they're doing now, which I and nearly every other PSN user are unhappy with.

If they wanted to fight for our rights, then they could have taken another route. Paticularly one that wouldn't leave PSN down.

The actions they're taking now is hurting more people than helping. If they wanted to help the public, they could do something that help the greater population as opposed to a handfull of individuals.

If Sony was wrong, then let the courts handle it, not some hacker vigilantees.

We are lucky that whoever hacked Sony did it now and not later.  Just imagine  if this had happend later down the line and Sony still had shit security.  Millions uppon millions of new customers would have been exposed to this theft as well.  So hopefully when we get PSN back it will be a lot harder to hack than apparently it was in the begining.

So yes its a bitch not being able to go play online and do a few other things.  But I for one am happy it happend now and not later.  Because I never put my Credit Card info in and I was thinking about doing so recently.  Long story short, I will stick with buying PSN cards and having no worries.  I imagine lots and lots of people will be doing the same thing in the future.

or you could just use a credit card with decent security feature and sleep soundly.

My cc number is on PSN, I loose no sleep over it...

My wife got her cc number stolen on itunes little less than two years ago. The thieves actually charged some stuff on the card. It cost me nothing and the credit card company was actually the one to call us and tell us about it and send a new card...

Besides that I don't get the big outrage over credit card security when millions of people daily give their card to perfect strangers in restaurants and let them get out of their sight...( for the record in most europeans country people will not let you walk away with their card, restaurants have portable card processing units they bring to your table..).

Seriously how many of you that are scared to use your cc on PSN use the same card to pay for lunch or dinner ?

is that why they do that?  as an american i've always thought it odd they bring that little do-hickey out to the table, didn't realize there was a solid reason behind it.

They are specifically told by their bank to never let their credit card out of their sight.

The first time my mum came to see me to the US and paid for lunch in a restaurant I had to have a 5 minute chat with her to convince her that it was ok to give her card to the waiter...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

It is an easy way to do it too, if you're discrete about how you swipe the card and how you use the info you've swiped (like, say, pay for small online purchases across a multitude of cards, a book here, a DVD there) that people are less likely to notice

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Those 2 sentences contradict each other.  So you're waiting for someone to figure out how to play newer games with CFW?  But you only use your PS3 for watching Blu-ray movies?  O...K...  Either you don't have a PS3, or you're not as into hacking your PS3 as you put on.  Doesn't really seem like there's anything stopping you.

Also, good luck waiting for that check from Sony for a couple of bucks.

You never know. Some Anonymous are surely PS3 gamers who are pissed they can't play online so it stands to reason it might occur.

Silly, everyone knows Anons would most likely choose the superior PC platform.

For the exclusives, obviously. :)

no exactly, I own a PS3, had it since launch. What I cant JUST use it for Blu-ray? I hav eno intension of buying any new games till there is a CFW available that breaks Sony's license hold on the system.  I'm boycotting PS3 games pretty much. I'm also currently waiting on news of a working hack for my PSPGo. Got a problem with that? I also made sure my name is known and added to the class-action suit against Sony for OtherOS.
