Forums - Sales Discussion - I don't understand.. why is the PS3 on top now?

The fact that PS2 is still selling beyond the usual console expiration date means that it's not dead.

Around the Network

The Playstation brand has always been s trong. PS3 also offers the best value in regards to technology such as Bluray and free online features.

If Sony just made it technically equal to the 360 and sold it for $299, it would have been a massive success. But they didn't and it allowed the competitors to grow.

My people..... Sons and daughters of SONY.... This much I vow. The history of these days will be written in blogs. By crushing the armies of Microsoft, by seizing the games they thought to turn against us, we were fighting for our very exclusives... But if there are those who would deny us peace, refuse us our rightful place in the gaming industry, then...we will unleash such TERRIBLE VENGEANCE, THAT GENERATIONS OF SYSTEMS YET UNBORN, WILL CRY OUT IN ANGUISH!!!!!

you will find that quote on pretty much any killzone video on youtube...no idea where it came from but i like it =P

EDIT: omg why are upside down question marks appearing everywhere??!!?!

I'd say PS2 is only really alive in EMEAA. In Japan sales are 1/3rd to half 360's (which I consider dead in Japan), and they are very weak in Americas.

I'm going with PS2 being a vegetable in Americas. It's only a matter of time until Sony pulls to cord.

Why should they? Free money

Well at this rate retailers are gonna stop requesting PS2 consoles (I'm sure they are requesting less and less already) and there are plenty of used ones to go around.

PS2 is basically dead. Sony could do plenty to keep it relevant as a budget console. But I guess the profits it earns and could potentially earn isn't worth anything to Sony.

which is why they still sell it???

Every year people talks about PS2 selling less and less... but every year PS2 shows otherwise.

PS2 is selling GREAT for a ELEVEN YARS old console.

I guess it outsold Wii in last quarter shippment.

I know PSP sales were adjusted (significantly more in EMEAA then Americas), and PSP sales did see a jump in March. It's still selling about as well as it did in 2010, o I don't think PSP will be adjusted.

My point was PSP sales are not high, and it's because the handheld is old, and lacking software. Weather it's above or below the DS, it's still below the PS3.

Your point was that PSP is dead in Americas...which is unfounded.

PSP is essentially dead in Americas. Right now it's selling below PS2 weekly, and even if the price drop calls for an adjustment, PSP sales won't be that high in Americas. If PS2 outsells PSP on any week, it's dead, I'm sorry, get over it.

It's selling below PS2 weekly because it hasn't been adjusted yet...

Doesn't matter. Before the price drop PSP was selling about as well as PS2. Even if sales are inflated by 50%, it's still significantly below all the other current gen systems. I consider it dead, it may crawl around and bleed for 2011, but I'm still ready to give it a grave for Americas.

i would like to give myself the liberty of informing you about vgchartz adjustment patterns.

nearly every time Sony releases financials, their systems get adjusted up. look no further than the ps2 being undertracked by 10 million.

No, while there is demand, and while PS2 is still selling, they won't pull the cord on the PS2. I said it's only a matter of time before they do, at least in Americas and Japan. With no new exclusive software being released, and with multiplatform software (like Madden, Lego, and Call of Duty) titles becoming less common, I can only see sales dropping.

Someday soon sales will drop low enough where Sony won't be shipping out any more PS2's and then eventually shelfed units will be sold. This may take a while though, I still remember seeing a Super Mario RPG SNES Bundle not long before I got my gamecube.

What? Sony recently anounced that 150 million units of PS2's have been shipped, VGC numers should be very accurate with those figures. Also Sony recently had a press cnference at the end of April.

I know there will be adjustments, but the fact is PSP is selling below PS2 sales in Americas, and even with an adjustment, I don't think ales will be that much higher.

Man why do people always burn me on Sony? I said negative things about all the consoles, and people always want to dispue Sony. Too many Sony fans on this site, not a good representation of the market.

This was my point exactly, why do people always have troule undertanding my point about Sony consoles?

It's still selling because it's basically dead. I would be surprised if 2011 shipments were anywhere near 1 millon.

.

If I said 360 was dead in Japan, I would get nowhere near this type of feedback, and I believe I said that... Too many blind PS3 supporters, arguing with every little comment.
