Oh Im sure you would. The pciture you seem to be missing is that Sony along side with other credit card companies said there are no evidnce for any stolen credit card theft as of now. And Microsoft allowed, what 10-15 million CONSOLES to go to shit? How can people comapre these 2 is amazing. |
I believe they do not need to have your CC to get your identity stolen. All they need is the basics like name, birthdate, address, email, etc. which was compromise. If you didn't know SOE did tell everyone that 12,700 Credit cards were compromised, but only 900 were still active. That is still potentially 900 that could get their CC stolen along with their personal data.

Potentially PSN could be worse if the information gets to be used. |
If any personal information gets sold. And even then, some reports state the vast majority of people personal information were limited to their name, e-mail address and phone number. Annoying to be sure, but its not their Social, credit cards and other major personal information.
Only time will tell what level of information got leaked. And even if anyone was affected. All the more reason you can't claim PSN being down is as big of a problem as RROD. Because one has been confirmed to affect close to 20 million people. The other has yet to be confirmed if it will affect anyone but Sony.

OT: You guys need to understand there are people who play the PS3 without ever creating a PSN account. What did they lose again? Nothing. RROD affects anyone and there was absolutely no way to dodge it. After the bigger HDDs started coming out there were ways to dodge overheating issues and all, but it was quite late and expensive. |
I'm sorry, but that is failed logic, PSN is okay because not everyone makes a PSN account? Last I checked 80% of PS3s had PSN accounts. Where the RRoD only had a 50% failure rate.
Sig thanks to Saber! :D
I think one of the main reasons you could argue the PSN situation could be worse is that it affects every single PS3 out there at once. The RROD situation was a very costly and widespread failure on Microsoft's part however I give them credit for rebounding nicely. RROD really hurt their wallets but they managed to keep most of their 360 owners at least satisfied enough to stick by them. In the end, I think it's a wash but people shouldn't underestimate how different these two problems have been handled.

How do know that? The link everyone throws around talks about 80% of the PS3s being connected to the internet, huge difference. By connecting to the internet but not using a PSN account you can:
Download system updates.
Download Game updates.
You can browse the internet.
77 million accounts, if 80% of the PS3 users made an account it would amount to 40 million PSN users.
XBL has more users who play online than PSN. Its a fact. And no of XBL users including silver members = 30 million or so.
lol.
Not everyone is connected to the internet. Not everyone who is connected to the internet uses a PSN account. Not everyone who uses a PSN account has legitimate info on it. Not everyone who has legitimate info has a CC. None of the people who had a CC on PSN have had any kind of scam with it till now.
How is it in anyway comparable to rrod?
Since I experience both RROD and PSN. I'll take a working console system than a dead one.anyday.

Also the RROD happened when the install base was much smaller...
Well, Squilliam already pointed that out earlier but he got shot down even though it's a very good point IMO.

I'm not saying it's comparable to RRoD? I'm just saying your reason for thinking the RRoD is worse is stupid. Because a larger percentage of PS3 users have been experiencing this problem then the Xbox userbase experienced RRoD

My reasoning hasn't got much to do with percentages. Its more like the true victims are not PS3 users but PSN users.
However the true victims of rrod were 360 owners, not just XBL users.
