What was Wii's lowest week ever? After the recent adjustements I just don't know anymore.

When did the PSN shutdown first begin? I'm surprised it hasn't drastically affected PS3 sales with still being down roughly 2 weeks or more later and with all the bad press it's gotten lately.

Affected some games focused in online play like Portal 2, Killzone 3, SOCOM, etc.

Why people expected PSN down to affect hardware sales?

Because if a major feature isn't going to be working, why buy the device? At least wait until it is operational again. And with all the bad press about the hacking and personal information stolen it would shake potential consumers' confidence in the machine/company.

On the contrary: it would motivate consumers knowing that now PSN will be more secure than before. We are talking about Sony a very big and praised corporation. Sony's reputation is shaken a bit but not destroyed. PSN hack is not enough to do that.

I don't think ANY average consumer would think that way...

I don't think average consumer think either way. Does the average consumer stops buying Windows or using Internet explorer? Is Windows a very secure OS? Is Internet Explorer the most secure browser? Will people stop buying online because they are using Windows combined with Internet Explorer?

Irrelevant analogy. It actually kind of proves my point... As Windows gets worse press and more alternatives come out, people have stopped buying it as much and moved to Apple/Linux/Android ever so slowly. Windows is the majority OS with ~80-90% of all computers running it. PS3 doesn't even represent 30% of consoles. Also, online security is based mostly on the retailer's website, not the browser/operating system. As for IE, people have stopped using it quite a bit lol.

We got ourselfes another case of PlayStation Domination :)

Also, it looks like Nintendo can kiss the first place in weekly sales and YTD sales goodbye :P

I'd like to throw a little theory out in the open. Are the people that are buying new PS3's the kind of people that are interested in the online service? I'd like to give a few examples. Most of the people who enjoy onlining gaming could be considered to be a part of the higher end of the market, those people would have most likely have already purchased the PS3 earlier in it's life time and straight after the Slim launch. I'd be willing to argue that the people that are buying the most Playstations and Xboxes today, are people that fall on to the more casual side of the market. My cousin just bought a PS3 recently for FIFA, my other cousin bought one for Gran Turismo earlier this year and my uncle is planning to buy one with a Band Hero set and a few fighting games. I'd consider them all to be on the more casual side of the fence, who have finally seen good enough deals on the console and they'd have no interest in using PSN, something similar could be said for people buying the 360 with Kinect.

This PSN situation was likely to never have a huge effect on hardware sales, the only thing it could directly harm is the current owners of the console and their future purchases on PSN.

Interesting point and it could have merit.  Certaintly if you're a game player and hot to be online you'd have to have been really patient to wait until now to get a PS3 or 360.  I'll have to consider what this might mean for both consoles and the role of Move/Kinect.

Certainly off the top of my head I'd imagine PS3 could benefit more than 360 from such purchasers in the second half of its life, and it certainly gives more depth to why (particularly in US) Kinect was so important to boosting 360's sales and keeping it in pace with PS3 (beacuse TBH without Kinect/US the 360 would be trailing PS3 more than it is on weekly sales right now I think).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Poor Wii. You need SW and your price-cut sooner than you could imagine

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Anybody find it odd (and slightly amusing) that Halo Reach outsold GT5 in EMEAA this week?

i really wonder that the psn problem didn't have an impact on the ps3 sales. don't know about other countries but here in germany it was in all top news on tv and in the newspapers. it was like a microsoft campaign and after those news you would think it would be the worst thing you could do with a ps3 purchase.
