Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Cave story 3D preview

Mimiga Village looks so much better than it did in the original version. It actually looks like a village now.

OT: I'll definitely be getting this game, but I do agree that the level redesigns are hit and miss. I love the new Egg Corridor, but Grasstown looks a bit iffy.

I also might end up buying the DSiWare version... just so that I have both the 2D and 3D versions on the go.

Mimiga village looks pretty awesome

This is something I'll really need to see in motion, and on a 3DS. I love Cave Story, and personally, I'm glad these shots look good, but not TOO updated, as that is much of Cave Story's retro charm. Has anyone heard anything about the music? Has it been updated? The music is easily one of the best parts of Cave Story.

It was confirmed that there will be remixed music in the game just for the 3DS version. Not sure if you can go back to the original or WiiWare music though.

From IGN:

What's new in this version?

  • Full 3D world.
  • Remixed music.
  • Updated camera.
  • Number of life capsules increased.
  • New secret items.
  • Map on the bottom screen.
  • Dynamic lighting and shading.

OK guys, what about Mimiga Village?

I dunno... somehow the doors seem hidden to me.

PS: I meant in the OP that the Egg Corridor looked better than the other screens shown.

This doesn't look that great. And I agree if I didn't already have the wiiware version I probably couldn't even tell where I could even go. I was excited about this but the more screenshots I see the more disappointed i get.

Just noticed that the view is of the village as a whole, while playing you'd be zoomed in with a different camera angle. So doors could be more visible, specially those at the bottom which look quite weird with the light gleaming out.

That village does look lovely, though perhaps a little too dark (I know, it all takes place in a cave, but the pixel version didn't seem so dank).

I do like the idea of a readily available map.

I'll admit, I might be willing to buy this game out of sheer loyalty to The Cave, regardless of its actual merits.

Hmm...I liked the Wii remixed music, and I bet the 3ds music will be good, but I hope I can switch back to original too, cause nothing beats it.

And a demo in motion. The Egg Corridor still looks best, but my worries on the Mimiga Village door's seem ok zoomed in though its a shame you don't walk in them but just stand infront.

Grassland looks bad to me. And the game doesn't look polished. I hope they change some of the lighting and add some detail to the grass in grassland. the Arthur's house in Mimiga village didn't seem right to me. I don't know why but it felt wrong. I will still most likely buy this game. I hope they make a sequel or prequel to this game someday.
