I saw this comment on that vg247 link and it cracked me up.

"The only reason I tend to prefer Sony over it’s competitors is because most of the time, they have the superior product (reliability & build quality) & I’m sometimes willing to spend that premium knowing that Sony made it (depending on the product & how much spare change I have) rather than some random Chinese company, heck I still have a working Sony boombox from several decades ago running in perfect condition."

I guess a majority of first generation PS1 didn't overheat......  I guess a ton of PS2 disc drives, etc didn't break either...  Maybe he is just remembering sony walkmans/boomboxs from the 90s?  Who knows..  The only thing I know is that Sony lost me as a customer when my first generation PS1 overheated and they blamed me for doing it (charge 75 dollars to give me the second generation PS1 that didn't overheat).  Bleh....  Nintendo Customer Service > than the rest.

and all this has what to do with the topic of this thread?

I guess you can put it to the overall reliability of Sony products.  Sony used to be known for reliable products.  I've viewed their products negatively since the PS1.  That was around the time I view Sony falling from their reliable image.

I guess you can put it to the overall reliability of Sony products.  Sony used to be known for reliable products.  Not anymore.

Seeing that the PS3 is more reliable than the PS2 & PS1, I wouldn't be so sure. I agree with deskpro though, it has nothing to do with the topic and could be considered borderline trolling if nothing else.

"we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately"

That doesn't mean that it was hacked. It could just as well mean that they discovered that the SOE servers have a similar vulnerability and are updating its security to bring it inline with the new psn security.

Good to know they're investigating all their services.

They had to bring it down so they can bring PSN back up.

Either the initial breach also targeted SOE or SOE's network has similair vunerabilities. Either way just wait for more information.

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

I think it was the initial shut down wasn't it? I sure hope so cuz if not sony forums will be again filled with 10 topics on this -_-

No, it's a whole new one. This is regarding the Sony online service for MMO's on the PC platform, games like everquest.

They've got to be fucking kidding me.  I've been angry with the PSN hack but it wasn't some unforgiveable thing (though 30 free days of a service I don't want didn't do anything to help, it's more of an insult) but now, if true, I'm about done with Sony with gen.

I was going to continue buying their games and even multi-plats that are better on their system and I was leaning more towards buying an NGP but if true every multi-plat with be on the 360, the NGP is out of the question, and I'm simply borrowing (not even renting) exclusives.

GG Sony, G-fucking-G. This is well beyond the realm of embarassing and deeply in the "I can't actually believe this shit" realm.

12,700 credit cards? This does not seems like the kinda of number some random guys pull out of thin air. Hope this does not hurt Sony too badly.
