Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid: Other M - The Black Sheep....or so we thought

@gumby trucker  absoluetly, its damn near impossibe to follow up a a game that was that good, but thats why i like MM they werent really trying to make OOT 2, MM was so bizarre that it stands on its own. Endless Ocean is ok but one in space would be something to see

did you play the first Endless Ocean or the (vastly superior in every way) second?

If a sequel to Other M improved half as much as EO2 did on the first one we would be sitting on a new Super Metroid imo.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

^^^ only the first, as for Metroid if they make Other M sequel and fix the problems then we will have something special and im not even a Metroid fan

My OVERALL point is that people need to sto complaining about Other M being 'too linear' while claiming all the other games are 'total free roaming'.  They have set roadblocks and do not allow you to roam freely unless you get certain items.

That seems pretty pedantic. I mean, if other Metroids have "set road blocks", Other M has you on a railway track. And I'm not sure anyone claims that Metroid is "total free roaming", what would that be? An open world game? However it's certainly a lot less linear.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

People complain Fusion and Other M are too linear al lthe time.  Heck, Ive heard dozens of people claim Zero Mission and Metroid II are as well.  In the end, people just complain about any Metroid except Super and Prime.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

my biggest problem with the game was that it always tells you where to go, similar to fusion. And second the combat. first playthough i kinda liked it. it was cool fast and especially the sensemove made you feel like samus. Agile and acrobatic.

Second playthrough i was kinda "ey this game sort of reminds me of God of War and ninja gaiden and all those other button mashers."

The shooting in the Prime games are not a whole lot better though, but atleast there is something else besides shooting and general button mashyness.

I loved the Scan visor in Metroid Prime, scanning animals, plants, enemies and reading up on them.

Other M wasnt all bad, but it was far from great

Thing is Prime always told you where to go as well, the only thing Other M and Fusion do above that is hand you the map (and the map was still available in Prime as well, but you had to get it yourself)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You can turn that off on the options screen.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I fail to see how that effects anything

More importantly, if you wanted to ignore the prompt and go backtrack, you could do so. I don't mind the "linearity" that some folks in this thread are (rightfully) pointing out has always existed in the series. I do mind the pointless restrictions on exploration that two of the three Sakamoto games have  placed on the player. If I want to use my new toy to finally get that missle expansion, let me do it now, not in the very-end/post-end game!
