Our top ten ladies listed below are part of a celebration - one of feminity, positivity, and strength. Females are becoming increasingly significant and prevalent in modern video game storytelling, and we cherish those who are presented in the most positive light with this list. Still, for every light side, there is a dark side, and that is why we chose five ladies to headline female characters gone wrong. We here at RPGFan hope that the types of characters that populate the Top 10 continue to be featured in RPGs and those in the Bottom 5, well, simply disappear. To create the list, we as editors cast our votes, and what started out as a list we thought would be tough to complete turned into an outpouring of admiration for the female characters done right. Let's hear it for the girls!

Your thoughts? Who do you think should have been mentioned in the best/worst list?

I would replace Mitsuru with Aigis, and I would remove Aya Brea after the horrific 3rd Birthday. Though, I completely agree with their last choice in the worst list.

The Longest Journey / April Ryan getting shown some love made me smile.

Lack of Baldur's Gate though is upsetting.

Lenneth Valkyrie should be waaaaay higher.

Shion Uzaki is awesome

Hmmm I disagree with female shepard, I love that game, but imo the main character's usually one of the most shallow characters because their character is limited to small array of choices that are often extremely one sided one way or another.

And I've gotta disagree with shion. I don't think she's the best character. But how she ends up in the top 5 worst... is a bit weird.

And I disagree with peach, she fills the role she's supposed to feel quite nicely imo.

I thought the longest journey was an adventure game... I agree with the choice, because that game and april is awesome. 

I don't think I could make a list of the 5 best ones, I could make a list of my 5 favorite though.

I wouldn't remove aya at all... if you played the PE1. Probably best female lead or maybe even lead i've seen in a game imo.

And anyways, in the 3rd birthday it's only aya for like 1 minute.

What a nuisance being unable to read the reason why Kaine is on the list. I still have to finish Nier.

About the others, my favorite is Alys from PSIV. Such a well developed character with a strong personality and morality. There's one reason why i love so much that game.

*spoiler*Oh, but i'm sure Nei from PSII came up with the Aeris scene first. Although, she was quite the oposite that Alys was to her male companion. She was more of his "aprentice" (kinda like Chaz was to Alys), but her role was huge in the game either way.

Some interesting picks in their best lists and some that I really question. You can't really please many with these sorts of lists though. At least Mitsuro got mentioned. <3

My thoughts on the Worst follows their exact words on The Last Hope. Reimi wasn't bad. Lymle was an extremely interesting character that was destroyed by an ear-grating voice. Myuria was also cool. Unneccessary hate. There are far worse characters to include.

I didn't hate Yuzu. Terra, Jenna, Garnet and Lyn should be on the list

Commander Shepard

I don't think it's fair to include Peach when no deliberate effort has ever been made to define her character in the main games, and she has proven multidimensional enough in the RPGs, certainly there have been more shrill faux-Action Girls or Mary Sues that could have better fitted that slot, people where they tried to make a character and instead made something horrid, rather than someone who is merely living MacGuffin of sorts

Damn TVTropes. Now i'm talking in their terminology...
