i only agree with the part about wii 2. if all it will be getting from 3rd parties are 360/ps3 ports then when 720/ps4 release it would get dumbed down ports or no ports at all.

That would only be the case if third parties only thought of N6 as a platform to port to, and never seriously worked on making games for it. It'll be the critical juncture for Nintendo to attract third party focus to the console as more than just another platform in the multiplat chain in the time before PS4 and 720 release. If the market reorients itself in Nintendo's direction and the competitors overshoot again by releasing things more powerful than the markets demand, that whole situation could drastically reverse in one go

ps3 and 360 have more then 50% market share. they arent console more powerful then the market demands.

if tech wise its going to be the same situation as last gen and if the 720 and ps4 areant flops then we could have the same situation as last gen. unless nintendo are again market leader but this time with a console that sells loads of 3rd party hardware.

ps3 360 combined have more then 50% market share, so how did they overshoot market demand?

It took them about three and a half years to start taking marketshare back from Nintendo between the two of them. They offered more than what the market wanted or cared about in the beginning, though one could say futureproofing like that is a good thing (that the market will grow in to what you offer) I say its a poor fit for the gaming market

A massive third party conspiracy in their favor certainly helped, that the third parties bet on them, and have continued to follow the sunk cost fallacy in their investment in HD gaming through years of red ink. By bleeding red ink for three years, yes, Sony and Microsoft and the third parties behind them managed the 54.5% they currently enjoy between them

i do agree that 3rd party devs did suffer because of the hd twins, but as their market share show a majority of the public expect a tech boost between gens.

anyway if the wii2 will be able to sale 3rd party games then it could get more support then the wii, but unless the other two consoles are massive flops im not expecting many 3rd party exclusives(when it comes to big franchises)

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Seriously, why do these kind of threads keep popping up?  I realize that it's the doldrums of the industry and that Nintendo has the spotlight on them right now because they've not only released their DS successor but have also announced their Wii successor, but what the HELL is with all this doom and gloom crap? I don't see much point in discussing the next console since Nintendo has revealed NOTHING about it except Iwata saying they're "going to try a new approach with consoles". The 3DS hasn't even been out for three months either let alone a year and NO big 1st party games are out for it yet. How is this fair? Moving on, these kind of threads are getting BORING.

Unless you have been living under a cosmic-sized rock, the Wii is dead

The "dead" console sold 2010 millions more than its competitiors.

In 2011 it is almost equal. And that without big games! What do you think will happen when the next big nintendo games and the price cut arrives. By the end of this year the Wii will be the highest selling console again.

No, the point is, by comparing it to the GC is stupid, because they aren't even in the same league, as you just said.

Except for the fact that nobody had compared the Wii to the Gamecube.  The OP calling it dead is a bit premature, but Mr. Khan is the one who made the Gamecube comparison in order to make the Wii's decline look better.

My point was that if the Wii being "dead" now is a sign of trouble for Nintendo, then where the hell were they in 2006? They came back from the 04-05-early06 slump spectacularly

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

nintendo is just fine, they dont have anything too worry about at all. also the 3ds will sell alot and continuing selling after ocarina of time remake comes out in june and with the 3rd party games, it will sell and never look back. the next main console will also sell alot as well, ppl need to have faith in nintendo. they dont lose money on hardware and they make some of the best games in the industry as well.

man im tired of these threads, but i keep coming back. i stopped reading after the OP stated that the Ubi & SE are holding out for NGP, thats ridiculous, has anyone even read reviews or played the UBi games for 3DS, my god Rayman is a game that should have used more dev time and SE always supports Sony systems why would NGP be any different especially since they do well with the PSP but DS also, they will support both. Does it matter if the games are multiplat betweent NGP and 3DS? youll still get to play it

2006 was the year that the DS shipped over 21 million units, plus the Wii actually came out that year.  2004 and 2005 still had very strong GBA sales even though the DS had been released, and I don't think Nintendo or investors will be happy with the Wii just doing better than the Gamecube.  2012 will probably be a better comparison to 2006.  The console successor will be out.  The old handheld will have started to wind down, and the new handheld will start to show its selling power.
